We Study to Remain Faithful
As children begin to grow up, parents have many questions. The most important question ought to be - "Will they remain faithful?" In 1 Thessalonians it is clear to see "this church" was a great one...yet Paul was still concerned that they remain faithful. Why? Because, "It is for the faith and the faithfulness of others that we exist as the Body of Christ." (quote by Shawn Lindsay of Ozark Christian College - guest preacher this morning; Ozark is a mission New Life supports regularly).

11-8-09 Galatians 3:19-24
(Galatians 3:19 KJV) Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. (Galatians 3:20 KJV) Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. (Galatians 3:21 KJV) Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. (Galatians 3:22 KJV) But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. (Galatians 3:23 KJV) But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. (Galatians 3:24 KJV) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

11-8-09 Romans 8:8-11 "Live in the Spirit"
(Romans 8:8 KJV) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:9 KJV) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (Romans 8:10 KJV) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Romans 8:11 KJV) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (Romans 8:12 KJV) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

We Study Because We Love Jesus
People who love Jesus love the Church because 'she' is His body. As we all know, churches (i.e., local congregations) are made up of imperfect people...so relationships are difficult. Yet we are called to be at peace with one another. That command (it is not a suggestion but a command) raises a slew of questions. One question is, "How can someone be at peace with others if they are not at peace within their own person?"

Learning to Love - 1 Corinthians 13 (Stand Alone)
Sometimes, we need to call timeout, huddle up as a team, step back from the moment and remember why we are here. This sermon is a reminder to keep first things first. What is the first thing? Love is. They are many important things that happen in the life of a church--programs, budgets, meetings, facilities. These things are important because they enable ministry, but they are not the main thing. The struggle for a church is to keep the main thing the main thing. If we allow secondary things to distract, divide or discourage us, we will not achieve the primary thing God has called us to do. In this sermon, we will look at 1 Corinthians 13 as we more fully learn to love.
