In this sermon we look at what it means to be sanctified through the perfection of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Paul Tripp says, "Whatever rules the heart will exercise inescapable influence over the person’s life and behavior.” Ecclesiastes 10 explains how what is going on in our heart will necessary be revealed in our actions. Using Tripp & Tim Lane's Heat, Thorns, Cross, Fruit structure, this sermon explains that we need a heart remade and constantly renewed by grace to walk the path of wisdom.
As we return to our study in Philippians, let's turn to chapter 2, where last time we looked at the humility of Christ: v. 6-8, past tense Christ came from heaven to earth humbly sacrificing not His deity, but His pre-incarnate glory; coming in the likeness of men and was obedient to the point of death on a cross; satisfying the just wrath that sinners deserve; v. 9, the present in His victory over sin, Satan and death He ascends to the Father and is highly exalted; bestowed on Him is the name that is above every name. When the disciples asked Christ in Matthew 18 who will be greatest in the kingdom, He said he who humbles himself as a little child. And Paul's point is this ... humility is the evidence of God's divine work in a believer's life. That's why verse 12 begins with so then; therefore; here is the edict... (v. 3) "in humility count others more significant than yourselves" here is the example... (v. 8) Christ "humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death" now here is the evidence...(v. 12)
