Sermons About Savior
The Birth of Jesus
Luke 2 is a familiar passage to most people. We hear it every Christmas. Yet there are some unfamiliar things that we can take out of this passage. Luke placed the birth of Jesus in a historical setting. The birth of Jesus isn't just a nice story, but it was a real event that took place. Also, Jesus was born into the most humble of circumstances. The Savior, Messiah, and Lord was placed in a trough where the animals ate. If the Son of God is that humble, we need to be that humble, too.

God's Glory in Salvation (John 17, Bob Brainard)
God's manifold glory in the salvation of men is no more clearly set forth than in the Lord's High Priestly prayer, found in John 17. The religious temperature of our culture as described by Christian Smith and his team of researchers from UNC is, Moralistic Therapeutic Deism consisting of beliefs like these: 1. "A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth." 2. "God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions." 3. "The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself." 4. "God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem." 5. "Good people go to heaven when they die." Colossians and the rest of Scripture totally invalidate these and other misconceptions about who God is and how he relates to us! In Colossians 2:11-17 Paul offers us three proofs that Jesus > Moralism.
