Jesus And The Ultimate Question
Who is Jesus really? Back in the earliest portions of the Bible God had promised whoever was willing to listen that one day He would visit this world to bring redemption. He foretold, through prophets, throughout the centuries, in the Hebrew Scriptures that he would send a Redeemer or Savior. Once he arrived even John the Baptist had doubts about whether or not Jesus was the one sent by God. He asked, "Are you the one or do we keep looking?". Have you ever had questions, if not doubts, surface because Jesus isn't really what you expected or he did not solve some problem like you wanted him to? The truth is, Jesus doesn't always meet our expectations or fix our problems like we think he should. But the ultimate question is actually, "Are you the one?", and the answer to that question is "Yes".

God with us (Matthew 1:22-25)
Jesus Christ is utterly unique. He is the Name above all names. He alone is the God-Man. This is, in theology, known as the “hypostatic union,†which simply states that Jesus Christ is One Person with two distinct natures, One fully God, one fully human residing together in the one Person of Jesus Christ unmixed, unconfused, and undivided. 100% God & 100% Man, in the one Person of Jesus Christ, who from the point of the virgin conception and birth exist eternally as the God-Man. This is a mystery that exceeds the capacity of our minds to fully grasp. So here we enter into Matthew’s purpose: To establish Jesus Christ as the God-Man who came to Save (His people from their sins), Fulfill (OT prophecy), and Reveal (God to men).

When Jesus Speaks
God has spoken most completely in His Son. Jesus' work for us includes His speaking as the eternal Son via the prophets, earthly Son during his ministry, and exalted Son thru the apostles to provide Scripture (inspiration). He now works in those who believe thru illumination that we might understand and apply Scripture. He also works thru us in evangelization & discipleship to help others understand and apply Scripture. Do you listen?

A Savior from Sin (Matthew 1:18-21)
The announcement of the appearing of Jesus Christ came with the greatest news a sinner could ever hear, "He will save His people from their sins." From the unique circumstances of His birth to the three fold announcement of the purpose of the incarnation, Jesus Christ is the name above all names. He is the One who will Save His people from their sins, Fulfill all that the prophets spoke about, and Reveal the Father. This week we examine the unique circumstance of the virgin conception and the first purpose of His appearing: to "save His people from their sins!"
