Ideas Have Consequences #4 Essentials of the Christian Faith
Dr. Norman Geisler was the first person I'd heard teach that the Christian Faith has 14 non-negotiable, essential doctrines that provide for us the Gospel of Salvation. These are built on the presuppositions that there is a doctrine of salvation that declares, "I am saved, I am being saved, I will be saved." The Doctrine of Justification declares I am free from the penalty of sin; the Doctrine of Sanctification declares I am free from the power of sin; and the Doctrine of Glorification declares I will be free from the presence of sin.

Pray and Do Not Lose Heart
Last week we heard of the great and glorious day of Jesus’ return. It is a day when He will come to judge and wage war, pouring out His vengeance upon His enemies as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It will be a day of reckoning. He will make all things wrong, right, for He is Righteous and True. He will make every imperfect thing, perfect, as the Great Perfecter of all things. He will make every unclean thing, clean and pure, as the Great Purifier. It will be messy as grapes, vessels of wrath, are tread upon by the Great Victor, Jesus. As the great theologian Johnny Cash says, "God’s Gonna Cut You Down". It will be a long awaited, glorious day for the children of God, as He will make all things new. What do we do, until this great day comes, how do we live in light of this? Jesus answers this question to His disciples in a parable connected to His foretelling of His second coming, His return, when the heavens will be opened and He comes riding on that white horse.

The Rescue of the Righteous
Luke 21:25-36 As He sat with His disciples on Mt. Olivet, Jesus declared that one day the Temple they all admired would be destroyed, and Jerusalem trampled under foot. Yet, this event would only be a preview of power and judgment that would accompany the return of the Son of Man. And yet, the disciples should not panic or worry. For the return of Jesus would bring about the great rescue of the righteous … the redemption we all crave.
