A Generous Community
These days, there is an appetite for spirituality and a distaste for "church." Is this really what God wanted? The church was intended to be a dynamic, life-giving movement of people who experience and extend the love of God together. In fact, Jesus said that you can't be spiritual on your own, that the spiritual life is something we do together. If you catch a glimpse of God's dream for doing life together, we are convinced you'll never want anything less.

Serve
Hi, Welcome to Youth Sunday! We are thrilled that you are here. One of the movie characters of all time is Ebenezer Scrooge from the movie A Christmas Carol. He is great because of what he ultimately discovers about the joy of serving others. His entire life and reason for living is transformed the moment he chooses to stop being a vicious, mean-spirited boss and become a gracious man finding delight through serving others. It’s a great story! Ebenezer’s amazing change is like the change people experience when God’s Spirit transforms them. They move from selfish to servant. This change happens to those who allow God’s purpose of ministry to fill their lives and give them power to do what is unnatural-serving others rather than themselves.

Ministry Mindset
The church is called to minister to others. Part of loving others is serving them. The purpose of ministry is to edify others because serving is not to lift up ourselves, but those we serve. God gives us different gifts, but they are to bring one result. Through ministry to others I become more like Jesus, learn how to love others and carry out the plan of the Father.

Making Right Choices
Life is about choices. To not feel empty, we need to find a balance in the choices we make. For instance, some people are inclined to serve all the time, but they don't take the time to be in the presence of God in order to stay sharp. We can avoid running on empty by saturating ourselves in the Word and serving in the strength of God.

Why Serve?
The concept of "greatness" is appealing to almost everybody, but defining "greatness" is not an easy task. Jesus defined greatness much differently than most people when He said: "Whoever wishes to become great must be the servant of all." Matthew 20:26

Sowing and Reaping the Church
Is the church worthy of more than our leftovers? Is the church more than a drive-thru cheer-me-up? What if the church is really an institution, even a new race, an alternative society even, of men and women who are bearing the image of Christ? What if this institution, this race, this society, is most dear to the heart of God? What if this is the one institution that God has pledged to empower by His Spirit so a recurring manifestation of His love and power is revealed to the world in each new generation? What if? These questions frame the message from God's Word this Sunday. Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Acts 13:13-52 - Prepared and Gifted to Serve
Paul was prepared and gifted by God for his missionary journeys throughout the Roman Empire. His Roman citizenship and years as a Jewish Pharisee gave him the ability to speak to both groups of people effectively, and the Holy Spirit gifted Paul with the ability to teach and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with power, boldness, and clarity. In the same way God has prepared and gifted each of us to contribute to the work of spreading the Gospel, and there is great joy in serving God in the way that He has prepared us to do.
