The Passover Road
Luke 22:24-38 Jesus has just redefined the Passover to focus on the rescue and victory gained through His death on the cross. Amazingly, after hearing of the significance of the cross and that one of them would betray Jesus, the disciples pridefully move from discussing who the betrayer would be to who it could not be. It could not be the one who was the greatest. As they argue about who is the greatest, Jesus answers their self-focused response by redefining greatness in light of the Passover road…that victory and rescue comes through humble service and sacrifice as seen perfectly in Jesus.

A Generous Community
These days, there is an appetite for spirituality and a distaste for "church." Is this really what God wanted? The church was intended to be a dynamic, life-giving movement of people who experience and extend the love of God together. In fact, Jesus said that you can't be spiritual on your own, that the spiritual life is something we do together. If you catch a glimpse of God's dream for doing life together, we are convinced you'll never want anything less.

Stretched
Sermon Two Part Two: The boy who gave his seemingly insignificant lunch to Jesus found out that it was really significant. In the hands of Christ it was multiplied-stretched. In God's hands we are stretched. NIV John 6:1 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2 and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4 The Jewish Passover Feast was near. 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" 10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. 14 After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world." I. Strategic Position II. Strategic People III. Their Role is to Bless You IV. They Bless You by Stretching You ** Illustration: Everyone given a piece of Bubble Gum during the offering time. During the sermon I will ask them to blow a bubble which will symbolize being stretched.

Significant
Synopsis: Two Part Sermon/ Part One: A young boy give Jesus a small lunch (2 fish and five loves of bread). Jesus takes the lunch and feeds more than five thousand. Often times what is insignificant to us is significant to Jesus Scripture: John 6: 1-14 NIV John 6:1 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2 and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. 7 Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" 10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Digging
Faith is seen in what we do. Mark 2 says, "seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man,.." The four men believed that the paralyzed guy needed to be face-to-face with Jesus. They did something in response to their faith. We are called to bear fruit. It all begins with digging.

Collateral Damage
We like to think that we have the freedom to do as we please, as long as we're not hurting other people. What we often don't realize is that by living for ourselves we are inevitably hurting other people. Listen in as we look at the book of Judges and see how we often unknowingly do harm to others.

So you want to be a Rock Star?
Summary: The modern day image of celebrity is one that admired, cheered and uplifted. Through Easter Jesus shows us a different image of a Rock Star. Scripture: Luke 9: 18-27 18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?" 19 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life." 20 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God." 21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. 22 And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life." 23 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? Points: A New Image A Frightening Invitation An Assured Glory

I'm Angry and I Can't Move Forward
Summary: Sometimes no matter how desparately we want to come home our anger and pain want allow us. Scripture: Luke 15: 25-32 (NLT) 25 "Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, 26 and he asked one of the servants what was going on. 27 'Your brother is back,' he was told, 'and your father has killed the calf we were fattening and has prepared a great feast. We are celebrating because of his safe return.' 28 "The older brother was angry and wouldn't go in. His father came out and begged him, 29 but he replied, 'All these years I've worked hard for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. 30 Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the finest calf we have.' 31 "His father said to him, 'Look, dear son, you and I are very close, and everything I have is yours. 32 We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!'" Points: 1. Lost is not always geographical 2. The older brother was lost in his anger 3. His anger held him captive 4. The father reavealed the truth

LOST IN THE HOUSE
Summary: Sometimes even when things are going well in our lives, we are lost on the inside. Scripture reference: Luke 15:8 – 10, from The Message … imagine a woman who has ten coins and loses one. Won't she light a lamp and scour the house, looking in every nook and cranny until she finds it? And when she finds it you can be sure she'll call her friends and neighbors: 'Celebrate with me! I found my lost coin!' Count on it—that's the kind of party God's angels throw every time one lost soul turns to God. Sermon Points: I. Misplaced II. Careless III. Searching IV. Celebrate!

Lost:1
Summary: Sometimes no matter how desparately we want to come home our anger and pain want allow us. Scripture: Luke 15: 25-32 25 "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.' 28 "The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!' 31 "'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'" Points: 1. Lost is not always geographical 2. The Elder brother was lost on the inside 3. How do you return home when your anger want let you?

What Do These Stones Mean?
Scripture: Joshua 4: 4-7 4 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, "Go over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, 'What do these stones mean?' 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever." Points: I. Past II. Present III. Future

Servanthood
We are called to follow in the example of Christ and live as humble servants in our actions, but even more fundamentally in our attitude and nature. Scripture reveals several essential qualities to a true servant; the servant 1) serves as unto the Lord; 2) serves sacrificially; 3) walks in humility; 4) serves diligently, working hard; and 5) serves faithfully.

The Purpose Driven Life (#5): Shaped to Serve God
We are shaped to serve God by serving others. Serving—also called ministry—is one of our five core purposes here on earth. Our SHAPE (spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, experiences) will determine our ministry; our attitude and character our maturity. We need to learn to serve like Christ. That means being available, serving out of gratitude, and being faithful.

A Peculiar People
Robert Munger has said, "In our time it may well be that the greatest single bottleneck to the renewal and outreach of the church is the division of roles between clergy and laity that results in a hesitancy of the clergy to trust the laity with significant responsibility, and in turn a reluctance on the part of the laity to trust themselves as authentic ministers of Christ, either in the church or outside the church." Key Passage: 1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10
