Sermons About Sin
Death and its solution
Matthew 8 - 10 follows from the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus teaches about the Kingdom. These chapters now teach us about the King. This morning, looking at the first 22 verses of chapter 8, we'll see four things: 1. He lives in the shadow of death 2. He proves His authority 3. He loves the loveless 4. He warns people of the cost of following Him We live in a world that has rejected the life giver and if you reject the life giver then there are consequences... However, Jesus has authority over death and decay. He is the great reverser of death and decay.

Prescription for an Achan Nation
Have you ever noticed the similarities between Israel and Christian America? Both bountifully blessed by God, having great victories and claiming powerful promises of God and both flirting with defeat by turning away from Him. Both nations have a friend in God and both have enemies that would love nothing more than to destroy them. Let’s look at our text and see what we can learn about America – particularly today

A Contrite Heart
In 2 Samuel 11 and 12, King David stumbles into an immense moral failure when he commits adultery with Bathsheba and murders her husband Uriah to cover it up. In Psalm 51 we learn how David can still be called a "man after God's own heart" and how we can share in the forgiveness that David receives - by embracing Jesus as the truer and better King.

A God of Purifying Judgment
It is easy to get disillusioned with God's apparent lack of concern for evil. And it is easier to let that disillusionment turn into attacks against God and disobedience in our own lives. We figure that if God isn't going to judge it, we might as well do it. God reminds us that he has not forgotten. He is coming in judgment to purify his people. So do not give up your faith.

The Church of Thyratira: Revelation 2:18-28
In America, most of us have not been physically threatened for our faith. However, like the church at Thyratira, I would argue that most of our greatest temptations to compromise stem from either economic or social pressures. The church today is radically tempted to compromise by valuing the same things that the culture around us values. We serve a God who calls us to consider everything rubbish in order that we might gain Christ and be found in him. We cannot cling to the values of this world and still hold fast to the righteousness of our savior. Jesus offers us himself. Jesus calls us live lives of repentance, constantly letting go of our sin and clinging to his blood, shed on the cross for our sin, to forgive us and give us his perfect righteousness.
