Sermons about Sinful Nature
Preacher: Pastor Tony Simpson. Passage: Galatians 5 vv16-26. As Christians we have been made alive by the Spirit of God and are indwelt by the Spirit. We are able to choose to do what is good and pleasing to God when previously all we did was sin. However a battle rages within and we must choose constantly to live by the Spirit in order to produce the fruit of the Spirit. We must also be aware of the danger of pride as we see how we have progressed in becoming more like our blessed Saviour Jesus Christ.
This message deals with the second of the three enemies of the soul: The Flesh. The struggle with the flesh represents the internal battle that goes on in the mind of each believer between the Holy Spirit and the "old man" or "sinful nature." Three strategies for winning the war with the flesh include run, renew your mind, and live under the control of the Holy Spirit.
We sin because we have a sinful nature and we give into temptation. The Genesis 3 account of the fall of Adam and Eve provides us with many practicel strategies for dealing with temptation. For example: "Stay away from the tree - If you can't reach it, you can't eat it". God has given us His Spirit to help us deal with temptation. As Christians we live with the hope of heaven where sin and temptation will no longer be issues we have to deal with.
Satan isn't our only spiritual enemy. Our flesh (that is, our sinful nature) and the world are too. Josh Hanson teaches us how to battle on and win victory in Jesus' name.
Pursuing the theme of Real, through the passage of Psalm 51, Pastor Todd preaches on the hallmark of being a real Christian: contrition, what it is, and how and why it can bring forth in us the simultaneous responses of repentance and joy.
