Sermons About Slave
Freedom
God defines freedom as no longer being under the condemnation of the law but under the Spirit of His Grace. We are freed from sin and pardoned from His Justice and therefore able to live as we were created to live, in union with Him and in community with one another. (Romans 8:1-5). We are not only freed from something we are freed to something!

Following Christ -- Eph 1:7-10
Understanding "redemption" is key to understanding Paul's message in Ephesians. In Jesus' act of redemption, he bought us (at greatest cost) out of darkness to free us. Recognizing the cost and value of our redemption motivates us to faithfulness, holiness, and discipleship.

Wining The War Within
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Searching for Justice (Psalm 10)
Life is filled with all sorts of landscape. An all terrain faith is equally balanced for the breathtaking view from the mountaintop and the confusing trek though a cold, dark valley. It provides adequate support for walking in rough, rocky stretches and stability for the slippery spots. In this exploration of the Psalms, we will see that no matter where you find yourself in life there is an appropriate faith response to your life situation. Are you ready for the hike?

Philippians 1:1-2 - A Captive Joy
We normally think that Philippians is all about joy, and that is of course a major theme when it flashes forth 16 times. But it is sparked by the deeper themes of Paul’s letter. Philippians calls us to a particular kind of joy - a joy that was experience by Paul in Roman captivity facing a capital charge while his leadership was being contested. In this sermon we will look at acts 16 and see the journey Paul took to get to Philippi with his companions (Luke, Timothy, and Silas) including the Macedonia call by the Spirit of God. Secondly we will look at Paul's reception by 3 different people in Acts 16 when he arrives at Philippi. Finally, we will look at the occasion for this letter late in Paul's imprisonment at Rom (probably after 62 AD). My desire and prayer is that you will see the servant heart of Paul in fellowship with the Philippians Christians was based on making Christ the center of the letter and the motivation of His joy.

Set Apart for the Gospel (Romans 1:1-7)
In his introduction to Romans, Paul is already laying out how the gospel affects our lives. We see that the gospel determines our calling, our Lord, and our mission.

What Do You Want?
As Jesus continues on his journey to Jerusalem, he once again predicts his coming death, and instructs his disciples in the Way of the Cross. In his interactions with the disciples, and in his healing of blind Bartimaeus, Jesus asks the question of a servant: "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus' servant life and sacrificial death are not only our hope and salvation, but also serve as the blueprint for the servant-life of a disciple. In tonight's sermon we tackle the question, the manner, and the power of a servant.
