What does is mean to be a church on mission, filled with the Holy Spirit?
This week we consider the mess that God can make in our lives and churches when He is allowed to move freely. We also consider how we should respond to that.
This message focuses on the beatitude "Blessed are the poor in spirit." The sinful woman in Luke 7 is used as an example (as is Peter).
The Spirit guides us to know truths and discern our decisions; we can trust His guidance with confidence, and He has sealed our ultimate future.
John 14:15-17. The Spirit (paraclete) is our Advocate Who comforts us, encourages us, and intercedes for us.
Often our priorities in life are opposite to God's priorities. Luke 5 Jesus heals a man with leprosy Jesus Heals a paralysed man. Jesus' first response or priority was to address the spiritual need for forgiveness, then the natural needs were second. Body Soul Spirit Jesus priority is Spirit Soul Body.
People scoff at the thought of being "born again." But in this passage, Jesus teaches that the only way to enter into the Kingdom of God is by a new birth. This new birth can only happen by God's working in us, since he is the only one who gives new life.
When we obey God, we know the Spirit abides in us, which, in turn gives us confidence before God.
We begin our series on the Holy Spirit by studying base information and setting the focus for the year. When we talk about the Spirit, we are talking about God, and the Spirit's primary function is to point to Jesus. Our theme for this year is Breathe: Holy Spirit moving through me.
