The Bailout...In Debt We Trust
With job losses and unemployment at an all time high, soaring medical costs, a record number of foreclosures, and the financial ruin and debt enslavement that often accompany a severe recession and declining economy, is there anything that can be done to restore our country and our lives? In this message, we explore the attitude we should have regarding material wealth and how to bring about the needed change to turn things around for the better!

Maintaining a Fair Balance
Talking about money is often taboo in churches. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church to encourage them to maintain a balance between their present abundance and others' needs. We should likewise be encouraged.

Giving in Grace
Paul's words to the Corinthian Christians help us grasp the truth of what Christian stewardship is, and what it is not. Christian stewardship is "the free and joyous activity of the child of God, and of God's family, the church, in managing all of life and life's resources for God's purposes." When all is said and done, Christian stewardship is not about fundraising, but faithraising. We cannot give anything to God since God is the Maker and Owner of heaven and earth. The only thing we can do is to manage faithfully and wisely what belongs to God. Stewardship begins with God's giving the life of his only Son - the greatest sacrifice.

What's In Your Hand?
God takes what we have in our hands and uses it, if we make it available to Him. God has called you as a Christian--He has a mission He wants you to accomplish in your life and you must use your assets to do so.

EMBRACING the Biblical Call to Work and HEEDING the Proverbs of Godly Stewardship (2 Thessalonians 3:6-15) 05-17-09
INTRODUCTION: Today’s Topic: Work. Today’s Passage in Context: (adapted from the ESV Study Bible): --> Some Major Themes in 2 Thessalonians: [God’s righteous judgment will be manifest at the coming of Jesus Christ (condemnation for unbelievers; salvation for believers); Christians will share in Christ’s glory; the lawless one’s identity revealed and humanity’s rebellion will both precede the 2nd Coming of Christ; the lawless one will deceive those who reject the gospel; Believers should not exploit the charity of other believers]. --> The Problem of Idlers in 2 Thessalonians 3: [Some within the church were exploiting the generosity of wealthier believers and living unproductive lives (which may or may not have been related to their belief that Christ’s return was imminent). These people were not earning their own living and were a drain on the resources and energy of hard working believers]. EMBRACING THE BIBLICAL CALL TO WORK: --> Understand its Biblical Purpose (Ge 2:15; 3:17ff; Ex 20:8-11; Ru 2:4-13; 2Ch 2:1-10; Ac 20:33-35; Col 3:22-4:1; 1Ti 5:4,8; Rev 7:9ff); --> Avoid those Walking in Idleness (v6); --> Follow Godly Examples (vs7-9); Earn your own Living (vs10-12); --> Persevere in Doing Good (v13); --> Exercise Church Discipline (vs14-15). HEEDING THE PROVERBS OF GODLY STEWARDSHIP: --> Seek Wisdom over Wealth (Pv 3:13ff; 23:23; 24:23); --> Work Hard & Justly (Pv 6:10f; 11:1; 12:10f; 28:8; 29:21); --> Give Generously to God & Others (Pv 3:9f, 27; 11:24; 14:31; 23:6; 28:25-27); --> Provide for Your Family (Pv 27:23-27; 31:1ff); --> Train Your Children (Pv 1:8-9; 22:6); --> Save Money as You are able (Pv 6:6; 13:11); --> Live a Disciplined & Prudent Life (Pv 1:1-3).
