Sermons About Suffering
An Encouraging Word Part 3: The Present Joy
Without using any future verbs, Peter draws a sharp contrast between the present and the future. We, as believers, may be suffering now, but we will soon rejoice. We are engaged in life’s warfare now (“guarded by the power of God”) but we will soon be victorious. Our faith is being tested now, but soon it will prove itself purer and more precious than gold.

Following In the Footsteps of Christ
Through this passage of 1 Peter, Pastor Lance Parrott calls us to follow Christ even in the midst of unjust authority. How should we respond to a harsh boss? How should we act when someone speaks against us? Peter calls us to look to Christ. Listen to hear the Word of the Lord.

The Truth About Hell!
THE TRUTH ABOUT HELL! Luke, chapter 16 19: There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21: And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22: And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23: And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24: And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25: But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26: And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27: Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29: Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30: And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31: And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

I WIll Be Happy...When I am Understood
When was the last time you were frustrated for not being understood? We all deal with discord and disagreement. What should we do? How should we respond? Consider what Paul says here regarding unity and the gospel. Ultimately, what matters most is that Jesus wins. When we are filled with the gospel, we will be happy...whether we are understood by others or not, because we know that God knows us and that is all that really matters.

Introduction to the Book of Mark
rust in Jesus. • The gospel message is an invitation to trust in Jesus instead of myself to rescue you me from sin, from death, and from hell. • The reason this story is good news, no great news, is because we are undeserving of such love, undeserving of Jesus’ work in our place, on our behalf. • The gospel comes to us because religion has left us empty – religion is simply our efforts to make God like us – self-salvation. But the gospel is God’s work to make us holy – His salvation. • If you have not trusted in Jesus for your salvation, do it today – don’t leave without confirming that you don’t just know about Jesus, but that you have trusted Him to save you. Study Jesus. • Some think that after they put their confidence in Jesus for salvation, they are done with the process. • But we need to continue to look at Jesus (not just for our eternal hope) for two immediate reasons: 1) Jesus shows us the Father – He is the perfect revelation of God. 2) Jesus shows us the people we need to be. • Years ago, I realized that if I wanted to know God, I needed to study Jesus. He is God in the flesh. • Commit yourself to look at Him, learn about Him, and study Him throughout this series. • Become an expert in Jesus – as much as you learn about cars and TVs and yard-care and home improvement and child-rearing, learn about Jesus. Study Him – it will change your life. Follow Jesus. • Third and finally, commit to follow Him. Mark’s invitation is not just to know Him, but to follow Him. • We’re calling this series Disciple, which means student or apprentice – learning from the One we want to be like, to learn from. Our goal is not just to look at Him, but to become like Him. • If we finish this series and all you have to show for it is a book of new information on the shelf, then we have not honored the God who gave us these words. • He is calling us to follow His Son – to run after Jesus in all we do. • I ask you during this series to put into practice what you learn.
