Dr. Ralph Kerr with the Teaching & Learning Institute shares some practical ways that we can honor our public school teachers
Most of us would scoff at the idea that we were false teachers. Maybe we're not teachers at all. Yet, Peter focuses more on the lives of the false teachers than on their doctrine. We must take a look in the mirror. Are we LIVING like a false teacher? Are we influencing others away from Christ?
Through God’s amazing love we were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19). May we never treat lightly nor trample underfoot the blood of God’s Son (Hebrews 10:29). "Amazing love! How can it be? That though, My God, shouldst die for me!" (Charles Wesley).
While Jesus was on Earth, he attracted many followers with the promise of a simple set of rules and teachings. What drove people away was his claims to not only be the only way to God, but that he was God himself. You have a choice to make. Was he a liar and a crazy man, or was telling the truth? There is no middle ground.
This sermon is a review of my series in Luke 16:1–19:44. In this section of Luke's gospel, we encountered many people and many different events. However, as with the rest of Luke's gospel, the culmination of Jesus' road trip to Jerusalem was all about Jesus. In fact, Luke provided us with five clear snapshots of Jesus in this section of His gospel, each snapshot demanding a response. (1) Jesus the Prophet: Heed His Warnings. (2) Jesus the Savior: Trust in Him. (3) Jesus, Full of Compassion: Imitate Him (4) Jesus the Teacher: Listen to Him (5) Jesus the King: Worship Him
You turn out just like those who train you. A disciple learns and practices the teachings of the teachers. Every disciple is a Christian and every Christian is a disciple. Discipleship is the process of being trained to live like Jesus. The best way? Connecting to a Godly teacher.
May this psalmist’s prayer be our prayer. May we too cry, “God, teach me!” Let us pray for spiritual instruction from the Master Teacher in the master subject to gain spiritual insight, spiritual guidance, to have spiritual hearts and eyes that God would revive us to live a more righteous life.
