Philippians 1:3-6 - Joyous Thanksgiving
In American Society we are tempted to domesticate the Gospel through secularization, self-indulgence, and pluralism. We don't want to abandon Christianity but we marginalize and privatize it. We are more concerned about being comfortable and secure than with the truth of the Gospel. Paul's thanksgiving was joyful in the fact that the Philippians did not marginalize the Gospel of Christ but in fact participated in it. Gospel Fellowship always exceeds all earthly fellowship because it is rooted in God in an eternal quest. We see Paul’s thanksgiving grounded in 3 things: 1) A Thankful Remembrance, 2) A Thankful Fellowship, and 3) A Thankful Confidence or Assurance. It is not your grip on God that has made the difference or will make the difference in your life, but God's grip on you. In these 3 verses you learn not to be confident in your goodness, character, history, perseverance, but in God. Paul's joy and thanksgiving comes not because he attended a hotdog fellowship with the Philippians but because they suffered for something Greater - the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is God's work in us that is a cause for great thanksgiving. Is God Working in you so that you? If he is you will be participating in the Gospel.

Remember - God is Good
God is Good: a reminder of why we serve God, and how good it is to serve Him. A lot of times, especially when we’re busy doing things for God, or even believing for things, we forget just how good God is. We forget what all He has already done for us. Sometimes it’s good to remind ourselves of these things. We need to praise Him for what He has done for us.

Am I A Thankful Person?
“AM I A THANKFUL PERSON?” Do people see me as a thankful person? Do I come across as a grateful individual? Does my family know me as one who remembers to give thanks and show appreciation? Does GOD see me as one who is thankful? Does my communication with God reflect a grateful person, or does He hear mostly “give me, give me, give me, help me, bless me?” THE SCRIPTURE: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 THREE GOALS FOR THIS THANKSGIVING SEASON: 1. I am invited by God to live a life free of anxiety. 2. When I am anxious I am invited to make requests in prayer with thanksgiving. 3. I am asked by God to find a way to give thanks in all circumstances.

Freedom to Be Thankful
Technology changes, culture changes, theory changes -- but human nature remains the same. In the ancient historical account of Abraham and his family we see a reflection of ourselves. Though God had made a promise that could only be fulfilled by divine power, Abraham chose to take matters into his own hands and rely on human effort and power to do God's will. How often are we tempted to do the same thing? Listen as we allow the Apostle Paul to show us what we can learn from the story of Abraham.
