Does the Cross Have Power for You?
Does the Cross Have Power for You? I Corinthians 1:17-31 The problem in the Church at Corinth was that Christians were seeking to promote their own status inside the Christian community by introducing the worldly wisdom of eloquent preaching and prideful self-achievements. What empties the cross of its power? (Verse 17) 1. Promoting human wisdom for the answers to life 2. Depending on our cleverness to bring about life change. The preaching of the cross divides people in two groups: (Verse 18) 1. It is foolishness to those who are pereshing. 2. It is the power of God to those who are being saved. God is out to reject the wisdom of this world (Verse 19) 1. He will dystroy their wisdom and frustrate their intelligence. God gets great pleasure from what the world calls “foolish preaching.†(Verse 20-25) 1. People are actually getting saved and the power and wisdom of God is changing them! Listen to the refreshing wisdom of God (Verses 26-30) 1. God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. 2. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 3. God chose the lowly things of this world and the “despised nobodies†to nullify the "somebody’s.†WHY (verses 17, 29, 31) So that the cross of Christ won’t be emptied of its power So that we know better than to personally boast before Him! So that we will only boast in the Lord

In Defense of Ingrates
Defending the Ungrateful Nine. Warning to the Ungrateful. Gratitude tends to wear off. Gratitude tends to want more. Gratitude too easily focuses on the gift rather than the giver. Gratitude can be hard work.
