I Became the Shepherd - Zechariah 11
God loves His sheep; but do His sheep love Him? Will they ever love Him? Zechariah is charged with a task of shepherding the flock of the returning remnant. He has plans to prosper them and to defend them -- but the sheep rebel, and the other shepherds don't appreciate him. Will there ever be a day when Israel follows the voice of their true shepherd? Yes! But the true shepherd must first lay down his life for them. Not simply to protect the sheep from wolves; but also from the just judgment of God that they so deserve!

Prisoners of Hope - Zechariah 9,10
9 out of 10 scholars agree: Zechariah is a tough book to interpret! But what do we find there? The classic Old Testament prophetic motifs and a clear explanation of the Jewish Eschatological Hope. But this hope exceeds the Hope of the enemies of Israel being judged... Zechariah says that these enemies will be CONVERTED by a donkey riding Messiah who will destroy the military might of Israel and proclaim, "Peace to the nations." Therefore, those of us still engaged in a spiritual battle should remember that we are prisoners of Hope! (And this hope will not disappoint!)

Then the Word of the Lord Came -- Zechariah 6,7,8
The last mention in the Bible of the phrase, "The word of the Lord came to me," is to the prophet Zechariah. What will this word be that concludes the Old Testament canon? First, the Messiah is still coming and he will be known as, "The Branch." Secondly, The Lord is still passionate about the future of Zion (and for those who will dwell there.)

The Eye of God - Ezra 5
Regime change in Iran? Sure; but during the time of Darius the Great. During this time, the prophets Haggai and Zechariah promote restoration of the temple by first restoring the people through preaching God's word! The result is an Aramaic document that declares to the world that it is God who is truly in control -- everything happens before His eyes -- do we live like this is true?

The Spirit Stirs Again - Haggai 1
Haggai is considered a, "minor prophet." But his short ministry brought about a major revival for the Old Testament remnant who had returned from captivity. Haggai is exactly the prophetic word the church needs to hear today! The political, social, and economic landscape of our day can tempt the church to ignore the call to seek God's kingdom first. Haggai will remind us about the importance of truth, God's reputation, the importance of leadership, and the power of the Spirit to stir the hearts of God's people. (Message given on Pentecost Sunday).

The Opposition is Always Organized - Ezra 4
Of course they want to stop the folks from having Bible Studies in their homes! Do you know what happens in those gatherings? They are little "training camps" where people are taught how to become disciples of Jesus -- and Jesus wants to rule over the entire world! That always scares the neighbors! It scared the neighbors when the sons of captivity came back to rebuild their temple again! What did the neighbors do historically (and what should we expect today) in their attempts to stop the building of God's kingdom?

Tears of Joy... Tears of Regret - Ezra 3
The foundation for the temple has been laid for the former sons of captivity. Something about the past will be needed to ensure the completion of the temple. Something from the past could destroy it.
