Soul Prosperity
We need to live in God’s righteousness, peace and joy on the inside all the time, not just cry out to God for it when we are in a crisis. Our soul is prospering when we are walking in step with Holy Spirit.

a birthed church
In this passage we see a church being birthed. It's a beautiful reminder the church isn't supposed to be mechanically brought into existence. Rather it's a natural context for people to live missionally and be transformed to live in the ways of Jesus.

The Greatest of All (Mark 9:33-50)
Because Christ is lord over all things, following Christ requires change in every area of our lives. In particular, we see in this passage that Christ's lordship changes how we think of ourselves, how we think of and serve one another, and how we battle sin. And because of his sacrifice and the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to grow in living out these changed lives.

Working TO or Working FROM?
This Sunday, we continue where we left off in 1 Timothy 4:7-16. The reality that each of us needs to take responsibility for our spiritual development needs to be guided by two truths. First, the grace of the gospel is paramount. We are not 'trying harder' to earn God's favor or respect. Second, we are working with a purpose in mind. 'Godliness' in this context is not an end in itself, it is a means to an end.

The One True Vine and the Fruitful Heart
Sometimes when we try to grow or change we just try to get by with an approach to life that places all of our effort and attention on our outward behavior. It's easy to do. But throughout his ministry Jesus taught us differently. He told us that change, which ignores the heart, will never transform our lives.

Roots
350 degrees, 4 turns, 16 minutes = medium well steak hot off the barbeque. Give me a nice hunk of beef or chiicken, a good barbeque, the right spices and I am laughing. I know how to barbeque. I know what to expect when the conditions are right and I know the quality of food that is produced - delicious. For fear that I am setting myself up for failure the next time you are over for a bite to eat, work with me on this illustration. Rick Warren in his book "Purpose Driven Life" says "God is not just the starting point of your life; He is the source of it. To discover your purpose in life you must turn to God's word, not the world's wisdom. You must build your life on eternal truths, not pop psychology, success-motivation or inspirational stories." To me, that statement describes perfectly, Transformissional Living. Being established on a foundation that gives you the confidence to live the life God has called you to. Authentic, passionate and fun. It should be a life that comes as naturally as what you know you can do well, like cooking steaks. Key Passage: Colossians 1:9b-10
