Sermons About Trial
A Surprising Sacrifice
As we look at Peter’s letter this week, we’ll be focusing again on our Covenant to live out these themes - what we call Gospel Identities - together. Over the last 2 weeks we’ve looked at our Missionary Identity and our Family Identity. This week, in what is really a summary of everything Peter has been saying; we’ll focus specifically on the Servant Identity. To be a follower of Jesus means sacrifice, suffering, and servant hood. Are you arranging your life around the Gospel? Come and listen as Steve guides us through Peter’s letter to learn how we should respond in trial.

Fearless
Jesus made the promise that the gates of hell would not prevail against His church! As we dig into one of the most difficult texts in the Revelation this weekend, the underlying theme takes us back to those words of courage! Even in the darkest days of the church's history, God has always preserved His witness! Like the children's toy from 20 years ago "Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down!" How often have we had to get back up on our feet again after having suffered a "fatal blow"? If you take nothing else with you this weekend... take this... God has called us to be fearless in our resolve, fearless in our witness, fearless in our stand for Christ. Can you say it with confidence... "I am not ashamed..."? Key Passage: Revelation 11:1-14

Responding When Life Doesn't Make Sense (Habakkuk)
Israel is suffering and Habakkuk brings a complaint to God. God reveals to Habakkuk that he is planning to bring further discipline on Israel, and Habakkuk complains again to God. God shows Habakkuk that he is doing things greater than Habakkuk can see or understand. In response to this reminder of God's greatness and glory, Habakkuk humbles himself in prayer to God, by waiting on God, and rejoicing in God through faith in God's goodness and promises.

When Empires Collide
Revelation 6 reveals that while conquest, war, famine, and death are part of the daily news of history, that Jesus Christ is indeed on the throne of the universe and He does indeed respond to the prayers of His people! The day is coming, when the justice of God will be seen clearly throughout His creation - and in the meanwhile - His children hold on tight! In challenging times, the victory of Christ is our anchor! Key Passage: Revelation 6:1-17 & 8:1-5
