Trials: the means for spiritual maturity
Everyone experiences times of suffering in their lives. However, how we handle these sufferings and trials in our life will indicate our spiritual maturity. As Christians, we must realize that God intentionally ordains trials (testing) in our lives so that we might ultimately become spiritually mature. And if a believer is in doubt as to how they should respond/react to these trials, then they should ask God believing that He will give them the wisdom necessary to endure through their trials.

Pressed, But Not Crushed
God’s will is going to prevail, why not completely abandon ourselves to it. The answer to our uncertainty is a God that is certain in everything that he says and does. We have the promise of scripture that ,if we trust Christ, we will be pressed but not crushed.

Keeping the Faith
When we encounter difficulties like trials, temptations, or persecution, we can either build a wall around ourselves or stand firm in the faith. Sometimes that requires letting go of things in life that we don't want to let go of.

Life is Good
Before Jesus went to the cross He promised His disciples that they would suffer persecution. As He was confirming the promises of the Gospel to them on the eve of His crucifixion this was among them. As Americans we are truly blessed in the sense that our founding fathers came from a culture of persecution and protected us from a lot of that kind of thinking as they framed our country's governing documents. I some sense though having been protected from it we have become soft and impure. Looking through the history of the Church, this and other promised that Jesus made to his disciples and through them to the Church, we should recognize how good we have it as we see Jesus' words fulfilled all around us.

I WIll Be Happy...When I am Understood
When was the last time you were frustrated for not being understood? We all deal with discord and disagreement. What should we do? How should we respond? Consider what Paul says here regarding unity and the gospel. Ultimately, what matters most is that Jesus wins. When we are filled with the gospel, we will be happy...whether we are understood by others or not, because we know that God knows us and that is all that really matters.

GODLY CONFIDENCE IN DAILY LIFE THRU THE GOSPEL (2Co 4:1-18) 06-28-09
INTRODUCTION: Today’s Topic: Confidence. Today’s Passage in Context (2 Corinthians 4:1-18): --> the Central Theme of 2 Corinthians: * “The central theme of 2 Corinthians is the relationship between suffering and the power of the Spirit in Paul's apostolic life, ministry, and message . . . Paul's opponents had argued that Paul suffered too much to be a Spirit-filled apostle of the risen Christ. Paul argues that his weakness as an apostle is the very means by which believers are comforted (1:3–11) and God in Christ is made known in the world (2:14–17; 4:7–12; 6:3–10; 11:23b–33). Paul's sufferings embody the cross of Christ, while his endurance amid adversity, with thanksgiving and contentment, manifests the resurrection power of the Spirit (12:7–10). Paul's suffering as an apostle is thus the very means God uses to reveal his glory (1:3–4, 11, 20; 4:15; 9:11–15; 10:17–18).” *ESV Study Bible, Crossway Bibles, © 2007. --> the New Covenant: a new creation is coming thru God’s power. CONFIDENCE, TRUTH, AND THE GOSPEL -->(vs1-6) We have an Unshakeable Confidence based on God’s Truth in the Gospel. --> Therefore, we do not lose heart (though our Gospel is Rejected, God’s Truth prevails Victoriously). CONFIDENCE, POWER, AND THE GOSPEL --> (vs7-12) We have a Persevering Confidence based on God’s Power in the Gospel. --> Therefore, we do not lose heart: though we suffer many trials, God’s Power manifests the Life of Jesus thru our weaknesses. CONFIDENCE, HOPE, AND THE GOSPEL --> (vs13-18) We have a Joyful Confidence based on our Hope of God’s Promise in the Gospel. --> Therefore, we do not lose heart: though our lives are wasting away, we find Joy in the Hope of the coming Eternal Glory.
