When Jesus asked Peter to step over the side gunnels of the boat and onto the water he was asking him to take a big step of faith - He was asking him to do something that could only be done if God took over. Continuing in prayer in the face of continual disappointment
Ken Stebbins preaches the 3rd sermon in our Elijah: Man of Prayer series. Elijah faced continual disappointments in the mission God gave him, reminding him to trust fully in the Lord. The "fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much," as it did with the widow of Zarephath. Just as his prayers were persistent and specific, so ours should be.
