20-JULY-2008 - Matthew 14,15 - The Gospel as Told by Matthew
In Mathew 14 & 15, the theme of the common man continues. An enlightening contrast is offered between Peter who views himself as too common to walk on water and a Canaanite woman who knows her commonness but refuses to let that stand in between her daughter and Jesus. These two stories bracket an amazing teaching Jesus gives where he states that what goes in does not defile a person but what comes out of their heart is what defiles them. The heart has the same capacity to for goodness or evil regardless of commonness or uncommonness.
