Looking for the King
When Jesus was born, people had been longing for the coming of the Messiah for generations. Do we look for Jesus' return with the same anticipation? Coming off the heels of Jesus' teaching on the judgment that will accompany His second coming, He tells a parable to exhort His faithful followers to continually look, long, and pray for His soon return. For, when He returns, He will bring justice and vindication for His people who have suffered on account of their association with Him. This justice is a good thing, although it does not change our mission of compassion and reconciliation in the meantime that no less reflects the heart of God. So, in light of Jesus' teaching in this parable, don't be surprised when following Him gets hard. Furthermore, don't give up on longing, looking, and praying for His soon return. [Recording note: The sermon was re-recorded in the pastor's office, since we had some technical difficulties during the service.]
