The parable of the vineyard is an illustration of Jesus' love for but rejection by His people. God promises to bring in new tenants who will become His people. The Old Covenant is passing away to make way for the New Covenant.
The landowner seems almost foolish in sending his son after seeing how his servants have been mistreated. This is a picture of God’s grace. No matter how evil man is in his treatment of God and His messengers, He is patient and longsuffering, not willing that any should perish but that all come to repentance.
When God's people turn away from Him and reject His Word, God rightfully punishes those disobedient. The only means of hope is to follow in obedience God's commands for both justice and righteousness, which God has given abundantly in His kind mercy.
The description of the Kingdom Jesus gave us in this story of the Laborers was directly related to the events leading up to the story.
