Sermons About Weakness
Slivers and Thorns
Often we look at our trials and weaknesses, even our circumstances with an attitude of "What did I do to deserve this?" Larry Crawford brings the word of God to bear on this attitude, looking to Paul's example in II Corinthians chapters 11 and 12. Paul understood that his weakness meant God's power was displayed. Larry challenges us to see how God longs to use our weakness to display his great power!

Look Up and Cry Out
As our Great High Priest, Jesus sympathizes with us in our times of need AND provides mercy and grace when we draw near to him. This is an updated version of an earlier sermon, hopefully improved.

A Powerful God for Powerless People
We are powerless to change our circumstances, and our hearts. But God is powerfully able to change both. He makes great promises that reveal both his power and his love toward us.

20-APR-2008 - Matthew 4 - The Good News as told by Matthew
Building off Isaiah chapters 7 through 9, one sees that the Kingdom comes to those who are humble and weak and not those who move into Jerusalem and say look at me.

Temptation - Getting to the Bottom of it all
Today’s lectionary texts are fitting because they have to do with something common to all of us: temptation. Even the Apostle Paul confessed his struggle with temptation and sin when he said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it,†Romans 7:15-20. The Lenten season serves to remind us that we are mortal and that we are sinners in need of a Savior. There is good news in knowing that the great Apostle struggled with temptation just as we do. There is even better news in knowing that we “do not have a high priest (Jesus) who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need,†Hebrews 4:15-16. We hope that this will be your experience as you worship with us today.

Proper Biblical Actions in Light of the Judgment of God
The writer of Hebrews gives us two proper biblical actions that we are commanded to do in light of the judgment of God and the conviction of the Word of God. 1. We must hold fast our confession. 2. We must draw near to the throne of grace.

High Definition Living
High Definition Living? The tension of Holiness and Freedom 1 Corinthians 8 An opinion is a position you hold, with varying degrees of intensity that is merely voicing a preference you may have. A conviction it hat which is roted in your conscience. “ Ravi Zacharias It is not unusual that we regard our opinions with a greater degree of intensity than we do our conscience. Consequently, we may be careful what we believe, yet are noticeably more casual in how we live. 1. Enduring the scrutiny ◠The very discussion of personal holiness implies personal scrutiny. ◠1 Peter 1:17 ◠1 Corinthians 3:1-17 Rick Joyner – “Walking in the light is more than knowing and obeying certain truths. It is being true and being free from the compulsion to hide.†2. The relief that freedom brings. ◠The basic ingredient of freedom in Christ is our call, and desire to love as we were created to love. ◠Romans 13:8, Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another ◠Luke 15, The Prodigal, ‘When he was yet a long way off…†◠We are free now to love and pursue God and others. No longer driven to serve ourselves. 3. The problem of weakness in ourselves and others. ◠1 Corinthians 8 ◠Understanding the difference between disagreeing with someone who thinks and believes differently from you vs. offending a weaker Christian. ◠It is also important that we recognize our weak areas and guard ourselves. The pursuit of Holiness is ultimately a pursuit of God, not issues or situations

2 Samuel 2:1-11 - A Tale of 2 Kingdoms
One needs to understand the importance of humility in leadership. This passage shows a contrast in a leaders who power is based on Humility (David) and one whose power is based on human pride and autonomy. David seeks God in his efforts to rule and while Abner and Ishbosheth seek only their own Advantage in their efforts to rule. David is a great type of a christian who that those who trust God must be humble by acknowledge sinfulness and weakness through an intimate relationship with God in prayer.
