We must recognize not only the dangers of wealth, but also the great potential that wealth brings for caring for the poor and needy. And while we realize that poverty can be the result of sloth, Proverbs reminds us that the rich have a responsibility to care for the poor.

Managing Priorities
Money has a dehumanizing function of measuring value, and it therefore leads people to pursue the goal of having instead of being. Jesus reveals money as power. Power also has great spiritual value, so money and wealth can be used for great good or for evil. This is one of the most "in your face" scriptures in the New Testament about the consequences of wrong priorities.
