Paul has written from a Roman prison to his favorite church in a Roman colony at Philippi. They were experiencing turmoil due to a couple of ladies, Euodia and Syntyche, whose personal conflict had become public knowledge. And Paul says I love these fellow servants of Christ, but they must put aside their differences and "agree in the Lord". It is good that they hold to Christ ... it is good that they teach Christ ... but they also need to live Christ ... or no one is going to believe anything they have to say.
