Pastor Bropleh explains that the real mission of Christians is to GO out and spread the word of Jesus. He uses these 3 points from Mark 6:7-13 to place emphasis on the meaning of today's message: 1) The Community has a PURPOSE; 2) The Community is a PARTNERSHIP; and 3) The Community has POWER
Acts 17.1-9 describes the missionary work of Paul and his team in Thessalonica – preaching the gospel, proving Jesus to be the Jewish Messiah, and proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus for all people. The gospel they preached and the Spirit who empowered them created a new church of disciples. As Paul recounts this “gospel explosion,” we get a glimpse into what a Christian is, how one can become a Christian, and what happens to someone who does. Paul tells us the gospel message, that the message is a power that acts upon us, and that as the power of the gospel grips us we’re transformed from the inside out!
The Word of God is a revelation of who He is and what He values.
The Gospel of John is about Jesus, the man who is God. Jesus is God, the Son, the Second person of the Trinity. He is in intimate community, relationship within the Trinity with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus created all things and created all things for Himself and for His creation to find it's life in Him, the light of men. But we are broken by sin. We are darkness and have not comprehended that we are made to worship Jesus. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us, because the Word became flesh. Jesus came to rescue us, shining light into our darkness, bringing salvation.
In John 8:30-36 we see a shocking statement from Jesus. He says that some who say they believe are actually still in slavery. So what does true belief looks like? Jesus explains that true belief shows itself by abiding in his Word. This means that when we disagree with what the Word says, we humble ourselves by submitting to the Word and letting our feelings go.
God shows Himself to us through nature and through His Word. This revelation still speaks today and we need to listen to what He is saying.
We are a people of the book. Which book makes all the difference in the world? Some books inspire you, some books debase you...this book transforms you.
That stepping up that is needed for us to carry out the trust God has given us, where will the power for that job come from? How will God bring about the change in us as individuals and as a congregation? God’s Spirit will do that work in us and He will do it by His Word.
