Sermons About Work
God's Work
The image of God as an old grandfather sitting around on a cloud watching the events of the world as they take place could not be further from the truth. God is anything but passive! He is a very active God that is constantly at work. This week we will learn to see what Jesus saw; God is always at Work!

Making Life Work - Trust God
The book of Proverbs encourages us to trust God and pursue wisdom repeatedly. It says that pursuing wisdom is like cultivating a relationship with a beautiful woman. Originally written to adolescent boys in training, the point is clear about wisdom's significance. When we walk the path of wisdom we become more than just people who know how to make good choices.

Nehemiah #11 - Seeing the Work Through to the End- No Compromise
Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem to find that Eliashib, the high priest, has given a room to Tobiah, the Ammonite. Other problems Nehemiah faced were an assortment of foreign wives married into God's family. Nehemiah demonstrates a "no compromise" attitude toward all these violations of God's law.

The Hope of the Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Our view of Christ's work and our work should reflect 1 Corinthians 15. The emphasis is on Christ's work: 1) Christ's resurrection motivates and empowers our work; 2) Christ's resurrection secures our resurrection; and 3) Christ's resurrection fuels hope for this life. Because of Christ's work, we can be steadfast, immovable, and abounding in the work the Lord has for us.

Our culture has turned gossip into a commodity that is bought and sold. We have made talking about others in a negative way the norm. Paul calls our mouth an open sewage leak and encourages that we build up others with our words instead.

Finding Professional Margin
The key to professional margin is focus. We should learn to work toward what we're good at--which means improving our strengths and delegating our areas of weakness. When we learn to do less, we accomplish more.

Why Worry?
Will I trust my heavenly Father to take care of me? OR will I take matters into my own hands? Balancing my responsibility to work hard, give generously, save regularly, and spend wisely with an absolute confidence that God is my provider is a difficult balance for all of us to maintain. It is so easy to begin to believe that we have to look after ourselves, and to become consumed with "having enough." Jesus challenges us to put our trust in Him alone and to give up the useless habit of worry…easy to say ... hard to live out! Key Passage: Matthew 6:19-34

Pick Up That Baton
Pick Up That Baton What matters most? ‘Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…’ Hebrews 12:2a ‘And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and than will the end come’ Matthew 24:4-14 I am struck with the realization that the timing of God’s purposes is at times contingent on people. God has a plan that is relying on you and me to carry out. We are members of the kingdom of God and to some degree responsible how it is administered on this earth during our lifetime. So while life may be looked at as a race that we as individuals run, as Paul described it, it is also a relay. We are an integral part of the whole. What we do or don’t do contributes to, or adversely affects the completion of God’s plan. We easily lose sight of the significance of the moment in the larger picture of what God has done, is doing, and will do. Some characteristics of the early church (first three centuries). 1. They were moved by a burning conviction Galatians 2:20 2. Persecution and the Christian’s response to it had a profound impact on those who witnessed and administered it.Hebrews 11:32-40 3. The gospel as presented filled a heartfelt need. It presented life change and grace. Ephesians 2:8, James 1:12 4. The practical expression of Christian love was one of the most powerful causes of early Christian success Matthew 25:35-40 We are on the team with them and are called to ‘Pick up the Baton’ and run our portion of the race. How Genuine Faith Redeems Work
We often grumble about the toil and injustice that can come from our jobs. Peter reminds us that we are to be ambassadors for Jesus at work as well, respecting our bosses and doing good to everyone there while patiently enduring the letdowns and frustrations that come with any job. We should do this because Jesus set the example for loving people while He was being insulted and abused, enduring the cross for our sake so that we could be reconciled to God.

Nehemiah 10: We declare
This Sunday we continue our series on the book of Nehemiah. As we journey through this classic book we will see how God has called us to be the church and impact the city. Today we look at Nehemiah 10. The Jews delcare this day in a document of great importance to mirror the faithfulness of God. This document is full of promises to be faithful to God and His Word. The Jews long to be faithful at home, in their rest, at work and in the community of believers. With this new year what will you make of first importance? What will you declare with your life in 2008?

A Work in Progress
Another way of verifying God’s presence in your life is to recognize that He is committed to finishing the work he started in you. The apostle Paul says in Philippians 1:6 that “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (NASB) See yourself as a work in progress with the owner/investor onsite to assure that the job gets done. He bought you, now you belong to Him, and you are becoming his masterpiece. He wants you to bear fruit—to be mature and grow as a loving, caring person. As long as you remain ‘unfinished’, you can be certain that He is present in your life.

The Lord of the Sabbath
As the Lord of the Sabbath (Luke 6:5), Jesus challenged the scribes and Pharisees to rethink their understanding of Sabbath work regulations. His priorities should be ours when we consider New Testament truth. For example, is the Christian Sunday properly regulated by a modern version of Old Testament Sabbath requirements? What would the Lord of the Sabbath say?

Countercultural Power
Submission can be a bad word in our culture. When we think of submitting we think of relinquishing control and losing power. We identify submission with weakness. Yet God calls his people to view power and weakness differently. He calls his people to exercise their power by living lives of submission. Listen in as we discuss how and why God's people are to live this way.

Sowing and Reaping at Work
God has built into the earth a principle for living well upon it, the sowing and reaping principle. You will spend about 150,000 hours of your life on earth at work, that's 40 to 60 percent of your waking hours. We should not be surprised then that God has so much to say about this dominating arena of life on planet earth. Here we will look at how the sowing and reaping principle applies to life on the job...in fact, life before the job and life after it, too. Come, walk in the light of the Lord.

Redeeming Relationships Part 7: At Work
Americans work more hours in a year than the citizens of any other country, but our work often feels unsatisfying and meaningless because there is so much toil and frustration. As Christians we should work with the attitude that our ultimate boss is Jesus Christ and we are to work in a way that pleases Him and our supervisors at work are just mid-level managers compared to Him. This means that we should work diligently and honestly because Christ sees everything that we do. We should treat our coworkers with care and respect instead of merely tolerating them or seeing them as obstacles to advancement, and we should treat employees with care instead of as expendable assets to be sacrificed to advance our careers. It also means that we should work hard to provide for our families and use our wages help advance the Gospel by giving to the church and to those in need.

Jesus, Worthy to Reign
In this week's message we delve further into Hebrews chapters 4 through 9. This section of the book clearly teaches on the sovreignty and priesthood of Christ. Jesus came to this earth and lived a blameless life; He experienced the world that we live in yet, even to death, he remained pure and wholly dependant upon God. Through Jesus' example we too are challenged to depend on God fully, so that we can reign, as priests, with Him. Are you reigning, today? Key Passage: Hebrews 4:14 - 9:10

Wisdom for Work
At Creation, we see God at work, inviting humanity to join him by cultivating the raw materials of creation. Therefore, work is a good gift from God and an important part of being human. Proverbs offers practical wisdom about what work we should be doing and how we should go about doing it.

The Eighth Commandment (Exodus 20:15)
God's prohibition of stealing covers a great variety of sins, from robbery and burglary to embezzlement (including how we spend our time at work), fraud, enslavement, and robbing God. There is stealing in each of our hearts, and the root of it is our failure to trust in God's provision, and in our covetousness. In Christ, who died between two thieves, we find provision for forgiveness, and power to work faithfully for our provision and so that we may give to others.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to Work We Go
Work is a fact of life. The good news is time spent in the workplace is an opportunity to influence and impact others for Christ. The bad news is it can steal away time that should be spent in our relationships with God and family.
