Sermons About Work
A Tuesday Morning Experience
Christ reveals that God gets personal with us. This was foreshadowed in God's encounter with Moses in the burning bush. In this Labor Day message, Pastor Simmons speaks about calling in purpose in one's work.

Employment and Management Opportunities
Our Bible text addresses employee and employer relations in the context of the First Century culture, where many nations practiced slavery. Though the Apostle Paul was addressing Christian slaves and Christian slave owners, what he says is just as applicable to today's employees, managers, and business owners. We will discover that God has certain expectations of you, when you are at work. Today, we will examine three instructions from our Bible text that will make you a better employee, manager, or business owner.

A Labor of Love
We can be professionals who are Christians…but God save us from becoming professional Christians. The labor we do for God is always a labor of love or it is nothing at all. Unlike the labor of our hands, it is a work motivated not by profit, prestige, or personnel reviews, but by God's love for us; by our love for God, and our love for people.

Impacting the Workplace
We each work different occupations, but all Christians are first followers of Christ. Do we carry our faith into the workplace? We should be working with integrity since that is how we're to live every aspect of our lives. This includes being authentic in the workplace. Work with passion and pour your heart into your work, just as you are working for the Lord. Work with perspective and remember that our inheritance isn't in this world. If you find you're serving yourself instead of God, you need to invite Jesus into your life because He can help you see that you don't work to make a living, but rather you're making a life to give God the glory.

Come On People Now
Ephesians 4 talks about how the body of Christ grows and builds itself up in love as each part does its work. There's a great old song from 1967 by the Youngbloods; “Get Together”. There are so many ideas in that song in this Scripture. The songs says, “Come on people, now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.” Here in Ephesians 4:16 the Scripture says, as the body of Christ we are held together and the church grows and builds itself up in love as each part does its work. Of course what we have here in Ephesians is not just a sweet song from the sixties but a clear word from God. And it gives us a vision for our lives and for the Christian church that is very different than the way many people think of it.

Work and Rest
On this Labor Day weekend, we pause to ponder work and rest. Our culture has distorted both of these, resulting in an unhealthy, burned out, and over-medicated people. Today we stop, listen to God’s Word, and rest in him. A proper understanding of work and rest is the catalyst to escape the rat race, and offer meaningful and God-pleasing service.

Living a Life of Gospel Intentionality
Kaleo SDSU is taking a couple weeks to explore what it means and what it practically looks like to be intentional with the gospel through all of life. We will be investigating the book of Mark for insight into how Jesus brought the gospel to every situation and trained his disciples to do the same. We are called not to separate our life into religious, pagan, hobby, service, parenting, work and gospel intentionality but is instead a life that sees the gospel as the motivation and center of all we do.

Time Well Wasted
Sometimes we need to "waste" a little time in order to get closer to God. Thanks to John Ortberg for writing the article that stimulated my thinking on this topic.

Focus On Eternity
Have you heard the story where five thousand people were fed with five small barley loaves and two small fish? It's a pretty well known miracle that you may have heard a lot about. Yohan looks at this story again, but from a fresh perspective. One that is eternity bound.
