Sermons About Works
Biblical Faith is an Obedient Faith
The obedience that accompanies biblical faith will always be a two edged sword. One edge will show the world and the church that we indeed are legitimate believers and heirs of righteousness and the other edge will heap condemnation on the unbelieving world. In other words it is important how you live.

The Poor Rich Man
This sermon looks at one of the few encounters that men had with Jesus that didn't turn out so well. The Rich Young Ruler had everything in the world, yet knew something was lacking. He ran to Jesus to find out how to "Earn" Eternal life. Jesus told him that he had to die to self and trust Jesus not as teacher or master but as Saviour. In the end, even though the man frealizes he is lost, he refuses to give up the world and put Jesus first. He seals his fate by not believing in the only Begotten Son of God.

Galatians 1.6-9: No Other Gospel

The Evidence of Election
In this message, we will look at how the Apostle Paul could say of the Thessalonian church We know that you are chosen by God. Paul's certainty of their election comes from the manner in which the Gospel was received, and the corresponding results of that Gospel in the lives of the people. As we examine the Evidence of Election ask yourself this questioned Am I chosen by God?

Do Christians receive visible rewards for works or behavior on Earth? Will we have crowns placed upon our heads just to cast at the feet of Jesus? Who are the 24 Elders in Revelation 4? Can they be human since the lamb (Christ) does not appear until Rev 5?

The Nature of Faith (Romans 4:13-25)
Paul references the promises of God to Abraham, the ultimate fulfillment of which is the restoration of fellowship with God and the establishment of God's kingdom in the new heavens and new earth. Abraham and his descendants will be heirs of the world. Paul clearly demonstrates that it was not obedience that secured this promise to Abraham, but Abraham's faith in God and God's grace toward Abraham. Works and reward are utterly opposed to faith and promises. Just as with Abraham, we do not inherit God's promises by obedience or lineage, but we inherit God's promises by faith in God. We too will experience restoration of fellowship with God, and will participate in his eternal kingdom!

Justifying the Ungodly (Romans 4:1-12)
Paul argues and shows from scripture that we are justified only by faith in Jesus, not by anything we do. How can it be otherwise? After all, there is no boasting before God, and the only wages that our works could possibly earn for us is death. We see that Abraham was justified by faith and not by works, and furthermore that he was justified long before he was circumcised. Neither works nor rituals can save us; instead, we come to God as ungodly sinners, trusting only in him to receive justification as a free gift. Because of this, we can come to God today, now. And so the life we live is one of humility, recognizing our sin and guilt; but also grateful celebration, recognizing the magnitude of the gift God has given to us.

Faith Gives Us Eyes To See (Romans 3:27-31)
Faith changes the way we see everything. It changes the way we see ourselves -- there is no occasion for boasting in ourselves, only in our savior. It changes the way we see others -- we are no different from or better than others, only recipients of the gifts of grace and mercy, which others need just as well. And it changes the way we see God's Law -- the Law is no longer the way we earn God's favor, but it is a guide to how we can live a life pleasing to the one who has saved us.

The Coming Day of Wrath (Romans 2:1-16)
We live in light of the coming day of wrath, first, by thinking rightly of the sin of others; we are no better than others and must not presume on God's grace. Second, by giving ourselves to good works, not as an attempt to save ourselves, but in faithfulness, gratitude and love. Third, by thinking rightly of those who have never heard the gospel; their problem is not that they have not heard, but that they have seen God and rejected him. The only way that we will escape the judgment of God is through Jesus's death, sacrifice, and washing our sins away.

Now About Spiritual Gifts
Now About Spiritual Gifts The early church focused less on the cross than they did on the resurrection, believing that just as God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, He would empower them to produce fruit for Him. This empowerment came through spiritual gifts that enabled each believer to serve the body of Christ in a special and unique way. That’s the way it still works. Ro 6:4, Ro 7:4, Matt 25:14, 1Cor 12, Php 2:4-8, Acts 6, Acts 9, 2Tim 2:20-21

If You Love The Lord, Show It
Do you want to know how to obey, to be a good Christian? Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and secondly love your neighbor as yourself. If duty and works were the ticket then the Pharisees would have had it made. Yet Jesus told them that they looked good on the outside but where dead on the inside. Dr David Burggraff has an encouraging message on relationship with God.

John 3:9-15 - This is Jesus: The Son of Man, Lifted Up for All Who Will Believe in Him
How does one enter the Kingdom of God? How can one be purified and cleansed of their sins? Those are questions that almost every religion on the face of the earth is trying to answer. In order to be pure, you do not try hard to be a good person, to give alms, to fast, to pray, and to balance your karma. These cannot purify an already impure soul. Instead, you simply look to Jesus. You believe that he was crucified for your sins and raised from the dead. And, if you believe that, then you have eternal life. That is the only way to enter the kingdom—by looking at Jesus and believing.

Works Won't Work
Paul explains to the Galatians, and to Peter, that "by works of the law no one will be justified." In this mesage Pastor Lundmark helps us to realize that no one ever was or ever will be justified by works of the law. Until we recognize our inability to wipe away our own sin, we will never recognize our need for Christ. Until the world recognizes that our message is a message of forgiveness and not of condemnation, laws, and rules, they will never recognize that Christ offers salvation by Grace, and not by works. No one will be justified by works, and all are justified by faith in Jesus Christ. Galatians 2:15-16

Acts 21:15-36 - Grace Versus Law
After a long journey Paul returns to Jerusalem to meet with the believers there and confront the accusations from his opponents who accused him of teaching Gentile believers to turn their backs on the law of Moses. Both Paul and the leaders of the church in Jerusalem understood and believed that a person can only be saved through faith in Jesus Christ and not through keeping the regulations in the law and that Christ did not come to get rid of the law but to fulfill it. In order to be patient with those who did not yet understand this and who were weak in their faith they decided that Paul should present himself before the temple and go through the purification ritual to demonstrate that he still respected the law. While at the temple, though, a great crowd of people was aroused against Paul and he was arrested by the authorities. In the same way we should be willing to inconvenience ourselves in order to not unnecessarily cause those that we want to teach about Jesus to stumble, but we also need to be on guard against the creeping lie that says that we are accepted in God’s sight by our own good works and cling to the truth that we are made right with God only through trusting Jesus and his good work of sacrifice in our place on the cross.

John 5:19-47 Christ Revealed: Lord, Liar or Lunatic
Jesus speaks of the work that He was sent to do, which He was in the process of doing; such as the revealing of His father’s kingdom, which would be secured by His work on the cross. This is a clear calling to life in God’s kingdom, where His will is done and we, like Christ, obediently honor Him. This is the gospel and the reason we exist.

Acts 15:1-29 - Defending the Gospel of Grace
Paul and Barnabas returned to Jerusalem it discuss a brewing controversy in the church. A council was convened to determine if a man needed to be circumcised in order to be saved from his sins. Paul defended the truth of the Gospel that a man is saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and not by anything he does, and the apostles in the council affirmed this. Peter and James then laid down some rules to help Gentile believers not offend Jewish people. In the same way we must be able to cling to the Gospel of grace alone and grow in spiritual maturity while not adding not needlessly offending the people we are trying to reach and not burdening them with unnecessary rules and restrictions.

Jesus our Justifier
We are not saved by good works, but we are saved to do good works. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:8-10
