Sermons About Wrath
The Righteousness We All Need (Romans 1 - 5)
We revisit the first five chapters of Romans in preparation for returning to our Romans series. These chapters are a powerful portrayal of the gospel. Paul introduces the gospel, which reveals the righteousness of God and concerns Jesus, the crucified and risen son of God and savior. God, in his holiness, requires righteousness and purity of all who would approach him, but this righteousness is nowhere to be found in humanity. Only in Jesus Christ, through faith in him and his death in our place, do we find the free gift of righteousness that brings us mercy and grace and life rather than death and wrath. Thanks be to God for this amazing and undeserved gift!

His Ways Are Higher Than Our Ways
This sermon reminds us that God's Ways, Word, Thoughts, Patience, Vision, Love, and Wrath are all above our ways. We need to remember that everything about God is higher and better than everything about us.

Sex In The City
In response to the pervasive culture of sex in San Diego, the Bible calls you to understand that this culture is produced and fostered by lust and selfishness. The Bible also offers freedom by calling people to live in love and light. This life brings freedom to individual people and to the culture itself.

Psalm 7: Justice For All
Justice is a major theme in the Psalms. In the Psalms alone the word justice occurs 18 times and the word judge occurs 23 times and judgment 12 times. In fact, justice describes in part who God is - he is a "just and righteous" God - he is the Supreme Judge - and justice is something God loves - Psalm 97 says "righteousness and justice are the foundation of [God's] throne." Psalm 9 says The LORD is known by his justice." and Psalm 35 says "The LORD loves righteousness and justice." Righteousness and justice both flow out of his holiness. Because he is holy, holy, holy, he is incompatible with evil and therefore cannot overlook it - he must decree justice. Since God loves justice then clearly we should as well. But we have even more reason to love it - we have been saved by justice. The cross of Christ is a symbol of God's justice in action for God satisfied his divine justice and wrath in Christ. because our sins have been judged and atoned for, now God's justice guarantees our forgiveness as john says: "He is faithful and just to forgive us... Made Right With God (Romans 5:18-19)
All men are born in Adam and inherit original sin which brings enmity with God. How does one become right with God? We cannot make ourselves righteous. By faith in Christ, we are imputed the righteousness of Christ. Adam's sin was imputed to all men, those who have faith in Christ have their sin imputed to Christ and Christ's righteousness imputed to them.

Pray and Do Not Lose Heart
Last week we heard of the great and glorious day of Jesus’ return. It is a day when He will come to judge and wage war, pouring out His vengeance upon His enemies as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It will be a day of reckoning. He will make all things wrong, right, for He is Righteous and True. He will make every imperfect thing, perfect, as the Great Perfecter of all things. He will make every unclean thing, clean and pure, as the Great Purifier. It will be messy as grapes, vessels of wrath, are tread upon by the Great Victor, Jesus. As the great theologian Johnny Cash says, "God’s Gonna Cut You Down". It will be a long awaited, glorious day for the children of God, as He will make all things new. What do we do, until this great day comes, how do we live in light of this? Jesus answers this question to His disciples in a parable connected to His foretelling of His second coming, His return, when the heavens will be opened and He comes riding on that white horse.

The Tale of Two Cups
In the Bible the cup is used as a metaphor for both blessing and curse . In the book of Jeremiah God tells the prophet to inform Israel that they are about to drink the cup of the wrath of God for their disobedience. On the other hand David in his obedience explains that his cup runneth over. This morning we will see when the Tale of Two Cups reaches it's pinnacle on the Mt. of Olivesin the Garden of Gesthemane.
