Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:6-11 He Ascended into Heaven
A sermon on Luke 24:50-53 and Acts 1:6-11
Celebrate Ascension!
Ascension was one of the major feasts in the church year. What does it mean for us today? Behold, Bless, get Busy!
The Ascension of Jesus
We celebrate Easter and all that goes with the passion week of Christ, but it seems we quickly return to regular activities and do not give much consideration to the events that happened just after the resurrection. What was Jesus doing in that time? When did he ascend into heaven and what does that mean to his followers today? In John 16:7 Jesus told his disciples that it was good that he should go so that he could send the counselor, the one the Father had promised...and that promise is still for us today!
The Purpose of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
What is the purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit? The baptism in the Holy Spirit is the primary empowering from God that New Testament believers can experience. Jesus promised it before and after he was raised from the dead. It was so important that he gave this order to the first Christians, Acts 1:4-5 - “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
