INTRODUCTION: 1st, The Veiled Revelation of Christ in “the Gospel according to Mark”. --> Mark 1:1-8:30 Jesus’ “Hidden” identity is gradually Revealed; --> Mark 8:29-30 Peter’s Confession (a Jew) Jesus is “the Christ”; --> Mark 8:31-15:1ff The way of the Cross is quickly (and firmly) Revealed and Rejected; --> Mark 15:39 The Centurion’s Confession (a Gentile) Jesus is “the Son of God”; --> Mark 16 The Resurrection of the Crucified-Christ Proclaimed! 2nd, Sharing the Gospel: --> by introducing people to Jesus Christ & His glory! --> by proclaiming the Cross and the Resurrection. I. STAND IN AWE OF JESUS’ FAITHFULNESS: --> His Peaceful Surrender as a Sheep who is Led to the Slaughter (v53); --> His Prophetic Silence amidst the Wicked Tongues of Men (vs55-65); --> His Timely Revelation to those who Reject the Gospel (vs61-62); --> His Eschatological Perspective amidst Man’s Blindness vs62-65 [or “His Eschatological Confidence amidst Man’s False Hope”]. II. BE HUMBLED BY PETER’S FAILURES: --> He Followed Jesus at a Distance (vs54, 72); --> He Gave in to the Fear of Man (vs66-71). III. STAND FAITHFUL THRU TEMPTATION: --> By Embracing the Cross as a Way of Life; --> By Keeping Vigilant Before the fiery Trials arise.

Its FRIDAY - The Angels Are Silent
Friday has arrived. Jesus is arrested; betrayed by the kiss of a friend. Peter, with a quick draw of the sword cuts of the right ear of Malchus the security guard. Mark loses his clothes in the scuffle and runs away naked. The rest of the disciples fled leaving Jesus alone. He is bound and taken to the home of the former High Priest Annas. The final countdown of eight long hours to the cross has begun. Jesus said He could call on 12 legions (72,000) of angels who were at His disposal. These angels were with Him in eternity past. They stood at the attention of the Father and could be sent immediately. But the angels were never called. WHY? Pastor Mel

The Betrayal of Jesus (Mark 14:43 - 15:15)
We see in this passage a sharp contrast between Jesus and everyone else -- Judas, the disciples, the Sanhedrin, and Pilate. The fear and sin of others are on full display, but Jesus's glory and his confident trust in his Father are also clear. Jesus's suffering is the answer for the disciples' sin, and our own.
