Joy in Suffering Pt1 - Philippians 1:1-11
The world arround us is full of images of suffering and pain, and most of our lives have been touched by either personal or communal suffering. So what should our response be? How should we act in the face of suffering? Paul in his letter to the Church at Philippi proclaims loudly “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!†Paul in all things Rejoiced in the Lord, as we read and study this letter we will also understand what it means to have joy in the midst of suffering.

God at Work
God invites us to trust Him to work in our lives. We should not expect to arrive instantaneously at the level of the Apostle Paul who could have full confidence that God was at work in every circumstance – even prison and shipwreck. We start by trusting God in our day-to-day decisions and expecting Him to give wisdom and discernment. Then, bit by bit we grow as we see God working. Let’s not be like my passenger of years ago who insisted that we change direction because he thought he knew how to get to the airport better than I did. Let’s trust God even when the way seems confusing and stormy. If the Apostle Paul were here today, he would tell us “I am confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.”
