Encouraging the Encouragers
Toward the end of his letter to the church, Paul demonstrates his intimate relationships with his co-workers in Christ. Through this, he underscores the importance of what relationships should be in the church.
In this last chapter, he will reveal his love for the community of believers, his mutual accountability with them before God, and his dependence on them for his own ministry. In these last few verses of the book of Romans, here in Romans 16, Paul is going to reveal his love towards God’s people in 4 ways: In vv. 1-2, Paul reveals his love through His Commendation. In vv. 3-16, through His Cordiality. In vv. 17-20, through His Caution.
Jesus is building His church. Those in Rome are growing and Paul speaks to them of their faith in Christ and their relationships with one another. Chapter 16 is the conclusion of this mighty letter and has the network of believers outlined in it.
