Itchy Ears
It's important for us to listen, and we love to listen to what tweaks our interests. But we have to make sure that what we listen to is truth, or measured up against truth. Let's turn our ears to listen and love truth from the Word. Let us endure false teachings, persevere under attack, be prepared to speak our faith and do the work that God has given us. All of this we should do so that we like Paul can receive the crown of righteousness.
Looking into the Mirror
Self deception is a powerful tool that can make us believe we are living a right life. James warns us that believing without doing is foolish and that by doing the things Christ did we can be certain about our salvation and our faith in Christ. The more that we live as Christ, the more of a blessing we become to those around us.
He Who Dies with the Most Toys...
A look at God and wealth.
Who is Jesus?
Brief Description: If someone was to say to you that Jesus is only a prophet or a teacher, an angel, or a little god, but not God...do you know how to answer them? Do you know where to go in the Bible to find the verses that speak to the fact that Jesus is God? If we are going to be able to share the truth about who Jesus is, then we will have to be ready to show it from Scripture.
The Ascension of Jesus
We celebrate Easter and all that goes with the passion week of Christ, but it seems we quickly return to regular activities and do not give much consideration to the events that happened just after the resurrection. What was Jesus doing in that time? When did he ascend into heaven and what does that mean to his followers today? In John 16:7 Jesus told his disciples that it was good that he should go so that he could send the counselor, the one the Father had promised...and that promise is still for us today!
Pentecost
When we hear the word "Pentecost" we most often think of the coming of the Holy Spirit...and for obvious reasons. However, have you ever wondered what the celebration of Pentecost was all about that the God fearing Jews from every nation came to Jerusalem to celebrate? Why would God have chosen this day to send the Holy Spirit and to begin His church?
Living Stones
Just as in the Old Testament stones were used to create a place of worship so in the New Testament those who come to Jesus, the Living Stone, become the spiritual building blocks of the new temple where God dwells. With this privilege of your new identity in Jesus Christ comes also responsibility. As a living stone are you alive and serving God and others as you were designed to do?
Conversion
We love the cool stories of people who have come to Christ out of a life of crime or addiction or total chaos. They dramatically remind us what it means to experience conversion. God came into their lives and they are no longer the same.
Justification
Imagine yourself in court, accused of breaking a law (and you know that you are guilty of all charges!). The judge asks the jury for their verdict. The foreman of the jury stands and says, "We the jury find the accused guilty." Now imagine that that judge is God! That’s why we need to be justified.
Regeneration
For the next few weeks I want to share 6 things that happen to you when you step into the light of Christ. This week we will investigate the miracle of regeneration.
