Confession: MIA in the Post-Modern World
Psalm 51

I. Psalm 51 is a problem for post-modern society.

     A. Psalm 51:3 is foreign to the average Joe next door.

     B. Confession has a diminished role in the life of the
          average follower of Jesus Christ.

II. Psalm 51 is a roadmap for those yearning for 
    forgiveness.

     A. David is fully aware of the tragedy of sin before God.
           Psalm 51:3-5

     B. God delights in poverty of spirit & brokenness over
          sin rather than pompous empty worship. Psalm 51:16-17

     C. Our only appeal to God is to plead for His mercy and
           asked to be forgiven.  Psalm 51:1-2

III. God is a pro at restoring broken lives!

       A. The verbs in David's pleas accent God's awesome 
          abilities. Psalm 51:1, 2, 7, 10, 12, 14

       B. His restoring power changes our lives. Psalm 51:8, 12-19
            "Then" 13, 19
