Rest Area

Expert testimony was given to a Senate sub-committee on time management. The committee revisited the 40-year-old prediction that advances in technology would radically change how many hours a week people worked. “The great challenge,” the experts said, “was that people continued to fill their lives with more “things to do” rather than taking more time to “rest.” We either have no excess time or people are lonely and isolated.

YIELD For Goodness Sake

A yield sign alerts people to hazards and directs drivers to slow down, to be mindful of other vehicles, to stop when necessary, and/or to proceed when safe. In Philippians 2, Paul and Timothy alert us to the hazards of selfishness and encourage us to be compassionate and mindful of others. They remind us to be united with Christ, who enables us to imitate his humility, to reject our privilege, and to yield much fruit.

ONE WAY

Jesus said, “I am the way.” Jesus was not arrogant, or intolerant, but in a sense His words are exclusive. They exclude other religious beliefs & practices, but they do not exclude any person. God has provided the way so that every man, women, and child can be saved. Isaiah 58 makes it clear that God desires us to stay on the path of service which includes charity to the poor through self-sacrificing social justice. If one wants one's voice to be "heard on high," fasting is not the way to make that happen. We are to live life changing faith every day.

God Allows U Turns

Notice something about driving in Missouri… legal U Turns are hard to find? In some states, U turns are allowed and perfectly legal. U turns are helpful if you’re headed in the wrong direction and need to get back on course quickly. There are places that U turns are dangerous…U turns just aren’t allowed. And one of those places is in the Kingdom of God. One of those places is on the narrow road of discipleship learning as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Intersetion

Jesus knew and understood the effect His words were having on the people. He knew that His teaching would be revolutionary to them. He stood before the multitudes that day, Jesus, in essence said this: “My teaching seems new to you. It’s a revolutionary change to the life you have been living. But don’t think that I’ve come to do away with the foundations of our faith. Don’t think for a moment that I’ve come to do away with the Law and the Prophets. This is not a new teaching. Everything I’m telling you today is really everything to which the Law and the Prophets have pointed from the very beginning. I have not come to abolish the Law, nor cast aside the Prophets, instead I have come to fulfill them
