As we have seen, the mission of Nehemiah was to rebuild the walls of
Jerusalem
, so that the life of this once marvelous city could be re-established. Until the walls were rebuilt and resurrected, nothing else could actually be done, because with the walls down,
Jerusalem
had no defense against the enemy and was no place to make home. The book of Nehemiah is about hope. Nehemiah had Jesus’ heart for rebuilding the city and also restoring the
Temple
as the place of worship for God’s people. He possessed character qualities that each of us should desire to possess: 1) a zeal for God 2) a love for people 3) a willingness to work and war. Because of God’ miraculous hand, Nehemiah was given permission to go back to
Jerusalem
and help rebuild what was once broken and destroyed. This week we will see how Nehemiah began to prepare for this enormous task God has called him to. As we glean from the word of God, let us prepare for the enormous task God has called us to as individuals and as a church.
