You've Been Noticed.

2 Amens

Amen

You haven been noticed...

I have a few pet hates. I would be lying if I said I didn’t. One of those pet hate is ill places conceitedness. Now pride in any place is wrong and needs to be humbled but there aren’t many things worse than some ‘know it all’ little smug faced arrogant claiming to be something he is clearly not!

I was down the beach one day with my wife. Just enjoying a nice day in the sun and waves and everything was great. I than noticed someone I thought I recognised. I went over to take a close look and I was in fact right. It was a young man who was part of a small time Christian pop group, I was by no means familiar with the members of this group but they had used our building to hold auditions for any new members the day before so I recognised him. He started walking toward me and I noticed he had a phone to his ear and didn’t see me. When he was right in front of me I said “Hey are you the guy from …?” he replied yea mate that’s me and walked right on by. I than heard him say into his phone: “I just got noticed.” Well I was absolutely furious. I wanted to punch his head in and say: “I didn’t notice you because your some big shot musician, you hired our building out yesterday and I was there you conceited little boy.” But I didn’t do that I just smiled and when my wife ad caught up I asked why people, no, Christians insist on being the ‘man’ when they are supposed to know the The Man!

“Pride is merely the admission that you haven’t met him yet”

Tonight I want to read to you the most frightening psalm ever penned by the majestic psalmists. This psalm is often used as a spiritual pick me up. The kind of, chicken soup for your spirit, so to speak but I intend to paint it in a different frame completely tonight and show you the frightening implications that follow if in fact it’s true!!!

Psalm 139:1-18

Why so frightening? You say. “It seems harmless...”

Now let’s talk about God.

The unanswerable question is this: “How big is God?”

Ephesians 1:25 “…He (Christ) fills everything in every way.”

What does He fill??? EVERYTHING!!!

In what way??? EVERY!!!

That’s right; every particle of matter is filled by and with Him. The deepest depth of the sea which is almost 11km to the highest mountain in the world. From the core of the Earth to the outer reaches of our planet. But it doesn’t finish there either He fills up everything right to the outer regions of our solar system than to the distant boundaries of our galaxy even past that to the very corners of the universe.

Our planet is 40,076 km in circumference. This is infinitely small compared to our solar system. There is a limit to what we can see and this is known as the observable universe. Light travels at 300,000km per second. That's seems fast but it's relatively slow compared to the distances to be travelled. Our own galaxy the Milky Way is so huge that even at the speed of light it would take 100,000 years to travel across it!

The nearest galaxy to our Milky Way, the Andromeda galaxy, is two million light-years away. The most distant galaxies we can now see are 10 or 12 billion light-years away.

Jesus Christ fills up everything in every way…

Not just things that blow our mind on a massive scale but what about on a intricate scale?

Let’s look at the smallest piece of living matter for a moment. A protein molecule is made up of 20 amino acids joined together with a peptide bond.

A Living cell which was once thought to be simple and have no real complexity to it, is best described as a high tech factory complete with artificial languages, decoding systems and central message banks that store and receive information: Precision control systems that regulate the automatic assembly of components, proof reading and quality control mechanisms, assembly systems that use principals of pre-fabrication and modular construction. Complete with a replication system that allows this very organism to duplicate itself at astonishing speeds.

These tiny, seemingly insignificant, structures dictate life itself and they can’t even be seen by the human eye unless aided with a powerful microscope.

We don’t have the time to talk about atoms, protons, electrons and magnetic fields that control the forces within.

Jesus Christ fills up everything in every way…

Rest assured that as big and expansive you look, you can only find God and as small and detailed you look, you can only find God.

Hebrews 11 tells us that He is the creator of things seen from the unseen. This tells us that there is a spiritual world all around us where angel’s and demons fulfil their assignments. According to this scripture God also fills up that entire realm as well in every way.

In fact God is completely indescrible. To give Him an adjective would be an attempt to display Who He is but yet still so incomplete. You could say He is Awesome and He is yet so much more than that. You could try saying He’s incredible and this is also true but falls so far short of who He really is.

Moses tried to get God to describe Himself by using a noun but God wasn’t buying into it and He replied by saying: “I am who I am!” And I'm so glad He did. If He used an any adjective or noun than we could pigeon hole Him and give Him a place and a name tag but the truth is He transcends all such things and the only way to accurately describe Him is to say God is who He is!

And there you are thinking you are insignificant, unimportant, irrelevant and not worth mentioning.

Feeling sorry for yourself and living under this blanket of insecurity and self hate.

That’s what's so frightening about this friendly little scripture; it says that God notices you!!!

...............................................................................

I feel like echoing the words of one powerful preacher named George Fox in the 17th century. He looked into the eyes of the man who judged him guilty of heresy, a crime that carries the death penalty, and cried out: “Hear the Word of the Lord and tremble!”

Because this is not some peaceful little ode from a peaceful little heart about a peaceful little God. It’s a message that rings true from the dawn of creation until Christ’s imminent return.

§     The love of God moved His hand in creation, in formation of the worlds and realms that surround us.

§     It moved His will to breathe life into a created image bearing His very reflection.

§     It moved His heart to relinquish His throne and come down to walk among His creation in human flesh and

§     It removed His Honour at Calvary ’s cross where the Lord of Lords and King of Kings died to save You.

You can’t ever escape Him and He would have it no other way.

You have been noticed. Neither by man nor angels. Not by someone of inflated importance but by the author and finisher of your faith.

You have been noticed...

...............................................................................

Let me read it again:

Psalm 139:1-18

Lord, You have searched me and known me.

2    You know my sitting down and my rising up;

    You understand my thought afar off.

3    You comprehend my path and my lying down,

    And are acquainted with all my ways.

4    For there is not a word on my tongue,

    But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

5    You have hedged me behind and before,

    And laid Your hand upon me.

6    Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

    It is high, I cannot attain it.

My every thought, word & actions are never hidden from You: You have hedged me and have laid Your hand upon me. Such a concept is far too wonderful I cannot hope to understand it.

...............................................................................

7    Where can I go from Your Spirit?

    Or where can I flee from Your presence?

8    If I ascend into heaven, You are there;

    If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

9    If I take the wings of the morning,

    And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10    Even there Your hand shall lead me,

    And Your right hand shall hold me.

11    If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”

    Even the night shall be light about me;

12    Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,

    But the night shines as the day;

    The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

I can never escape your great love no matter where I go. Even hell will be as heaven to me because You never leave me.

...............................................................................

13    For You formed my inward parts;

    You covered me in my mother’s womb.

14    I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

    Marvellous are Your works,

    And that my soul knows very well.

15    My frame was not hidden from You,

    When I was made in secret,

And skilfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16    Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.

    And in Your book they all were written,

    The days fashioned for me,

    When as yet there were none of them.

You not only know my actions, thoughts, words and location but you known my inner most being, my absolute depth of being and you created it all: You have a marvellous plan for me and it was all penned in your book before I stepped into this world.

...............................................................................

17    How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!

    How great is the sum of them!

18    If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;

    When I awake, I am still with You.

AND YET YOU STILL THINK ABOUT ME!!! Not once, not twice but ceaselessly, relentlessly and eternally.

...............................................................................

I have a question for you tonight:

Doesn’t it seem a little odd or even backwards that the God who is so infinitely enormous while being so intricately microscopic. This God who is and without description, who Has unlimited power and knowledge is the one who is seeking you second, by second, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and you rarely offer Him a 2nd thought. A left over minute of your day is all He gets and you wonder why you don’t know Him.

§     He forms you and you have the audacity to rebel against Him.

§     He desires you and you have the guts to deny Him.

§     He sees your inner most being and you have the impudence to refuse Him.

§     He spends His mental energy by entertaining you as a thought and yet you have the arrogance to ignore Him.

§     He dies for you and yet you reject Him.

My question is doesn’t that seem a little odd???
