Humility

Jean Vanier: "There is no ideal community. Community is made up of people with all their richness, but also with their weakness and poverty, of people who accept and forgive each other, who are vulnerable with each other. Humility and trust are more at the foundation of community than perfection."
Peter reminds us that the way we live is to reflect community. However, the humble community of Christ followers has some unique qualities:
- All of you should be of one mind – unity around the mission of Jesus
- Sympathize with each other – Gr. – mutually commiserative (deep in my bowels)
- Love each other as brothers and sisters – fondness for God’s family
- Be tenderhearted – compassion that weeps with those who weep & rejoices with those who rejoice
Community grows when people who accept the identity given to them by their Creator. They humbly accept that they were created as persons-in-community.
Humility is the admission that I need others, that I need God, that I need love and that I need truth.
Humble community leads us to spiritual transparency. They have seen your dirty laundry.
