What Does the Holy Spirit Do?

1. Holy Spirit is evangelistic.

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, “You must be born again.” The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8

As a Son or Daughter of God you have forgiveness.

“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

“You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:19

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

2.The Holy Spirit Is our teacher.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever – the Spirit of Truth.” John 14:16

“will teach you all things, and bring to you remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26

3.The Holy Spirit transforms our lives.

As children we have the closest possible intimacy with God. Paul says that by the Spirit we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’

“We’re weaker than we could have imagined, but through the Holy Spirit, we are stronger than we dared to hope.”

“I know your works, your labour, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have preserved and have patience, and have laboured for My name’s sake and have not become weary.” Rev. 2:2-3

But then those unsettling words: “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” Rev.2:4

“I don’t want your sacrifices – I want your love! I don’t want your offerings – I want you to know Me!” Hosea 6:6 (LB)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Gal. 2:20

A Christian is a supernatural being who has had a supernatural experience, and that is something more than singing choruses: that is something more than making a decision: that is something more than becoming a member of a church: that is something more than enjoying conversations. It is Christ at the centre of my life.

“.....be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Eph. 5:18

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

“the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22

The Spirit gives us the deepest possible experience of God.

“He is a God who is passionate about His relationship with you.”

Exodus 34:14b (NLT)

“God has poured out his love (that is, his love for us) into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:5

The Holy Spirit gives us gifts.

“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another the distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and still to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines”.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But eagerly desire the greater gifts.”
1 Corinthians 12:31; 14:1

“Be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

“The Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let those who hear say, Come! Let those who are thirsty come; and let all who wish take the free gift of the water of life.”
Revelation 22:17
