Choosing Now Over Later

This Sunday, the last week in our series about how the Holy Spirit helps us thrive, we will celebrate Pentecost, the event we read about in Acts 2 in which the Holy Spirit comes in great power. The people there that day asked two important questions: "What does this mean?" and "What are we to do now?" Not in the future, not in the past. Now. How will we answer?

Choosing Frontier Over Fortress

What does it mean to be a church? We often say we are to glorify God, love our neighbors, and make disciples. Two of those are nearly impossible to do if we are only the church inside our building. How are we living out Jesus' command to go (Matt 28:20)?

Choosing Bold Over Mild

In the weeks leading up to Easter, we talked about the earthshaking power of the resurrection to change lives and to change our world. In Acts 4, we see that power at work in a bold prayer that shakes the place where the disciples are praying. Jesus boldly bore our sins on the cross. Where, when and how do we need to be similarly bold for Jesus?

Choosing Fun Over Drudgery

Do you think of the church as a place to come and have fun? Why or why not? What's the most fun you've ever had in church or at a church-sponsored event?

Choosing Community Over Isolation

In America we celebrate our individualism and we enjoy the freedom to be our own unique selves. Last week we each talked about how we each need to choose for ourselves whether we are saying yes to Jesus. But God also made us to live in community. As you read the scriptures for this week, notice how the Holy Spirit is working in these gatherings. How have you seen the Holy Spirit at work when two or more are gathered?
