Joy In God

We are familiar with verses in the Bible that teach us to glorify God… that all we do is to focus on Him and draw attention to some aspect of His greatness. It only stands to reason since God wants all attention to focus on Him that God’s greatest delight is Himself. There is no one or nothing greater! So, we should follow Him and He is to be our greatest delight as well or we settle for our greatest delight is something less than God (Idolatry). Follow along as we try to grasp in a new and fuller way what the Psalmist knew “In Your presence is fullness of joy” about the source of true, lasting and overwhelming joy. We all want joy and yet are we satisfied far too easily with that which is far less than the wonder and greatness of God Himself? Since God does not settle for less than Himself as His greatest delight, may God Help us to not settle for less either. Follow along as we trace this significant, God glorifying and people satisfying truth about “Joy in God.”

Living In The Third World

Ephesians 2 covers what I have called “Living in Three Words.” The first is the world of the walking dead (1-3), the second it the world of those who have been sovereignly rescued from it by God(4-5), and the third is our position of being raised and seated with Christ in heaven. In this message, the focus was on the third world. What is going on up there that Colossians 3 tells us to seek and set our minds on? First of all, It is a phenomenally busy place. As you walk through these notes, be sure to catch the portion at the end (*), which shows many activities the Godhead is doing. Remember, He is doing most of these at the same time… trillions of actions at any given second. We should come to some obvious conclusions. One, there is not only no one like Him, second be most awed by Is super-natural abilities and third, He should be our greatest captivation. No wonder the Bible tells us “To Him be the Glory!” Spend some time soaking in these truths and may your captivation of Him soar to new heights for His glory and your greatest delight.

Living In Three Worlds

In reading the title of this message you may find that it sounds a little odd. And you might try to guess what these worlds might be. As we look at the first 10 verses of Ephesians 2, we find that there is the fallen world, the world of the redeemed and along with this world God has uniquely place us with Christ in the world where He is. I want us to especially note how easily we can travel back and forth between the first two as believers. We know Christ yet so often draw upon the perspectives of the fallen world. And next week we want to try and grasp in a much fuller way this 3rd World that God has placed us in already. God was not just talking to fill up His Bible. This is a powerful truth that we need to grasp and draw upon in our everyday lives. Join me in giving the following passages a close look and be sure to join us next week as we explore the truth and daily practicality of living in this 3rd World.

Regeneration

It would seem odd to walk up to someone on the street and tell them, “Did you know you were dead!” They would probably think you were a little kooky. But that is what we find here in God’s Word. Before people are made spiritually alive by God’s Spirit, they are dead, and even though they may be walking and breathing they are really one of the millions who are “the walking dead.” What makes it even more amazing is that they do not realize it. They are in great need to hear the good news of the Gospel and the life that can only come through Christ. They need to be “regenerated.” They need to be made alive from the dead. Follow this death/life saga as we explore it in the following passages. How thankful we are as believers that God has made us alive to understand the gospel. How also, we need to be aware that we hold the truth that so many “walking dead” need to hear.

Praying For Believers

I would guess that many of you pray for many believers and people tell you they are praying for you. What a blessing! Yet, in light of the scriptural prayer we will be looking at, it would be good to ask ourselves “what do we pray for in regards to others?” The bottom line of what Paul is praying for these believers for is that they might know God better and several things He has provided for us in Himself. Along with the many things we pray for each other, why don’t we place what we find here in Ephesians at the top of our prayer concerns? This is the inspired Word of God and therefore it is a prayer directly from God. It can’t get any better and what is contained in it is what we need most.
