Lesson # 207 – Jesus Raises Lazarus
- The Death of Lazarus (verses
1-16)
- Lazarus
- Name means “helped by God”
- Brother of Mary and Martha
- Jesus delayed traveling to
see Lazarus who was dying
- Jesus acts according to God's plans, not human plans
- God delays for a reason so that others who come will believe in Him
- Lazarus sleeps
- Disciples misunderstood Jesus, so Jesus told them clearly that Lazarus was dead
- But, it is a good thing because God’s power will be demonstrated through Lazarus’ death
- Lazarus
- I Am the Resurrection and
the Life (verses 17-27)
- We die in two ways
- Spiritual death – by sinning
- Physical death – when spirit leaves the body
- Belief in Jesus means that we have life from our death in sins and physical death
- “Do you believe this?”
- Jesus always demands “yes” or “no”

has been dead
- Jesus has raised several people from dead before
- But none of them had been dead four days
- Jesus prays
- To thank the Father for the opportunity to display God’s glory to the people
- Jesus orders Lazarus to come
out
- Lazarus cannot free himself
- Jesus orders to “Loose him, and let him go.”
- Four days already that Lazarus
has been dead
- Application
- Jesus has come to free us from our tombs of sin and death
- Jesus sets us free and unbinds us from our sins
- He frees our stony hearts from the grip of sin and releases us to new life in God just as Lazarus was set free from his grave clothes
- All who believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, receive through Him the gift of eternal life
