God’s Justice Revealed

  • 1. Through the Natural Order
    Romans 1:18-20
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
  • 2. Through the Human Heart
    Romans 2:14-15
when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.

  • 3. Through God’s Role as Judge
    Hebrews 12:23
You have come to God, the judge of all men
  • 4. Through the Cross of Jesus Christ
    Romans 3:23-26
God presented him (Jesus) as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
  • 5. Through Eternal Retribution
    Hebrews 9:27
man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Responding to God’s Justice

  • 1. Follow  and Honour Jesus as Lord
    John 5:22-24
the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father, who sent him. "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life
  • 2. Refuse to Seek Vengeance
    Romans 12:17-21
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
  • 3. Rest in God’s Justice
    Psalm 73:1-3 and 17
surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked…. till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.
  • 4. Think of God’s Final Judgement
    2 Corinthians 5:10
we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
