Following Like Jesus
The hallmark of our Christian faith is that we actually live it out! "Our faith" is to be more than just an intellectual knowledge or an emotional experience but it is to have practical and powerful impact on our daily lives! As we speak of Jesus "incarnation" it becomes clearly apparent that in order to achieve what He achieved, He had to have absolute TRUST in the plan of the Father! The classic "struggle" was when He faced His impending death, and cries out in the garden of Gethsemane "not my will but Your will be done." Those four words might summarize the entirety of our commitment to Jesus Christ - "Your will be done." So here is the rub....why do we find it so difficult to release control of our lives into the loving hands of Jesus? Why is "following" often such a struggle for us? What is it that keeps us from this deep, abiding contentment of taking our hands off and surrendering 100% to Him? Following the Father's plan took Jesus to the cross! Are we prepared to "lay it all on the line" in order to follow Him today?

Loving like Jesus
As we move toward Christmas, our eyes are turned toward Jesus. The Christmas story centers on His birth and introduces us to God's plan to win us back to Himself. We speak of the "incarnation" of Jesus - the act of His "taking on flesh" so that he might walk among us, love us, and ultimately give His life for us. "Incarnational" has become a very popular word in evangelical writings in the past 5-10 years - and more than being just the current "buzz-word" I believe it relates very well to the series of messages we've just completed, as well as putting feet to our mission of "loving people, following Jesus, and serving the world." In Christ, God took on flesh, so that He might relate to us. We in turn are called to step into the lives of others - to literally be "Jesus with skin on" to a world that needs to see and know the love of God.

From home to...
Patrice Nagant is the director for church-planting for our Mennonite Brethren Churches in the province of Quebec. You will be inspired today by God's story in Patrice's life, and the exciting work that is happening in Quebec. Quebec represents for us one of the clearest images of the "Samaria" context; literally a nation within the nation, with its own language and customs but most importantly, beautiful people who matter to Jesus! My prayer for this weekend is that you'll be inspired by the partnerships we have in this least reached province of Canada. Acts:1-8

Hands that change the world...
We're wrapping up our series this weekend. We've covered a ton of material, but the bottom line really comes down to a pragmatic question; what are we going to do with what we know? These messages have been "meat and potatoes" type messages; no smoke and mirrors, no rocket science, no mysteries, just the basics. We know that we are called to: "LOVE PEOPLE, FOLLOW JESUS, AND SERVE THE WORLD." So.....? I want to leave you with this challenge. If you claim the name of Christ, then your life is no longer "yours." It belongs to Christ. And your agenda must now fall in line with His! So what is it that God is calling you to? Will our world be a better place because we were here? Are you willing to stand alone? Key Passage: Daniel 1:8 & 19

I want more!
We've come full-circle in our discussion. I don't think you can prioritize the order of importance of evangelism, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and service; they all happen to some degree simultaneously. However, there are two ends to this journey. God calls us "out" of the world and back to Himself. The word "ecclesia" literally means the "called out ones." At the other end of the spectrum, we have the missional and sending heart of the Father that pushes us back out into the world. As He sent Jesus - He sends us! What a privilege to live "on mission" with and for God Himself! That's a calling worth stepping in to! Key Passage: Micah 6:8

I'm All In!
When Jesus called His first disciples, it was an "all or nothing" venture. He attracted HUGE crowds of course, but when it got down to the "tough stuff" many of them scattered quickly...only a committed few were will to pay the high price of following Jesus. So what kind of followers are we? And what kind of followers are we reproducing? The time is short - we need all hands on deck! Key Passages: 1 Peter 2:2-3 and Hebrews 5:14

I Stand in Awe of You
If worship is the fuel through which we live our lives, then we need to learn more about the power and glory that is available to us when we encounter the living God. Malachi talks about people who were "bored with church." Sounds familiar, eh? How can we place ourselves in a position to give our praise to God in a way that will honor Him, and what can we rightly expect "in return" from our corporate times of worship. I'm so excited about this topic! Key Passage: Acts 2:43 & Hebrews 10:45

Don't Walk Alone
In the last evening before His crucifixion Jesus placed the mantel of responsibility on His followers to impact the world for the glory of God. There were two defining values at the core of His instruction: that they would LOVE one another, and that they would BE ONE. The unity and the community of the family of God, is not only our greatest gift to the world, but also our greatest battle strategy against the enemy. So why is "community" such a struggle? Key Passage: Acts 4:32

His story...my story...
"Mission is not primarily an activity of the church but an attribute of God. God is a missionary God. It is not the church that has a mission of salvation to fulfill in the world; it is the mission of the Son and the Spirit through the Father that includes the church."(Source: Wikipedia) Evangelism is a key issue that we need to talk about as individuals and as a church family. When you conisder the pendulum of "preaching the story" vs. "living the story", where do you think most of us fall? Key Passage: 1 Corinthians1:21

The Ecclesia
The "church" is coming under a lot of fire in the west. We're living at the transition point from a Christian world-view that predominated society, to a church that is standing at the margins of culture. Many voices are critical of the church (and often they are right) ... and what it most disconcerting is that many of these voices are coming from "within" the church herself. Yet Jesus promised that He would build the church! But what is the church all about? We need to grapple with these questions, and that's what this new series is all about.
