"Yom Kippur" - the Day of Atonement - was the pinnacle of the Jewish festival year.  While god-fearing Jews were invited to attend many other sacred events, none could compare with this day!  On this day, the sins of the nation were cleared away!  The imagery, the sights, sounds, & smells of that day must have formed lasting images in the minds of those who attended.  Such pomp & circumstance! But for all it’s ceremony - the sacrifices made that day could never fully pay the penalty or satisfy the debt of sin they had incurred.  And next year, they would be back here again.
