Swelled Egos and Shriveled Souls
1 Amens
One of the greatest preachers of the 20th century was a man by the name of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. He has written volumes on the Sermon on the Mount and he said that the 6th chapter of Matthew is both a very searching and painful section of Scripture. “I think,” said Jones, “that this chapter is one of the most uncomfortable chapters to read in the entire Scriptures.” Why is this so? What is it about these few verses that are so challenging for us today? The answer to this lies in the fact that these verses have the potential to open up our heart and reveal to us our true inner motivations. It holds a mirror up before us and it will not allow us to escape.
Key Passage: Matthew 6:1-18
